Apparently most people are opposed to letting cats outside. This is an interesting phenomenon to me, because cats are animals and not toys. How someone can say cats should be contained indoors 24/7 is asinine to me.Do you let your cats outside?

my cat is very stupid with no defensive wandering instinct or situational awareness and he is dark black and i live in New Mexico. letting him out would be a death sentence. there is literally a bobcat twice his size that stares at him from my back porch and would easily kill him. any attempt at a categorical answer on this question is folly and every situation and individual feline is its own case study.

A domestic house cat is an animal but it is not a wild animal. Domestic house cats are a specific species of creature manufactured through targeted human breeding. Dogs, cats, horses and livestock are all domesticated forms of wild animals. They do not belong in the wild because they are not wild animals. Wild animals stay outside, domesticated animals stay inside. That's the rule, and a cat is a domesticated animal. Does this make more sense?

Local wildlife are also not toys, so sacrificing them to your pet's enrichment is kind of a dick move.

She was my sweetheart and I still dream of my cat, decades later. I wish I had an appartment with greenery outside, I would get a kitten in a heartbeat. I would have wished for a family and a pet.
