>>33600376i think the only think that truly has the potential to change a person is some unavoidable material circumstance that they can't run away from like being drafted into the military or shoved into a life or death situation with no way out. only problem is sometimes it can just kill you instead of changing you. we live in a probabilistic meat grinder in that sense.those kinds of situations dont really arise in 1st world society though, so most people don't change. it's not their fault it's just that humanity hasn't yet rationally resolved social relations and figured out a way of organizing labor that makes use of mans natural productive energy instead of alienating it. consequently life in such a society has a placid nature, there's no 'flow', no readily accessible productive outlets because they're shored up in the state and institutions and such... only by rationally solving social relations and reabsorbing the responsibilities of the state can mankind start working towards self realization... maybe this means using technology to organize ourselves pragmatically into something like a human blockchain, i dont know...
First and foremost Jesus Christ, he will meet you where you are and help you if you let him. Second, A really really good woman.Activates the primal part of your brain that makes you want to build a comfortable nest, protect and have children.

>be me Nurse f32 working with my best friend since middleschool another f32>Be on shift>See a huge man 6'4 about 260lbs come in>seems familiar>Oh goddamn its "Mike" from Middleschool/highschool/uni>best friend also recognizes him>She says "Mike is not ok...">I start to feel itMike used to be a happy man, loud, a bit annoying, but always a character with a glint in his eye.>Now it feels like the air burns around him>like the man seethes and radiates anger>that weird kind of angry which doesnt show at all outwardly, but you can feel in the air>like acidic feeling static on your face>No glint in his eyes>speech patterns changed>From cheery/happy rumbling low voice to a monotone of boredom/disdain>When he checked in with us we didnt think he recognized usI was there when he saw the doctor. A chronic pain condition that has been going on since before I knew him. He is loosing his mind to the pain as his body deteriorates and his heart, spine, and knees are all giving out. The man walks with the sheer force of anger, and refuses to give in to the wheelchair. And as he left he turned to me and said was nice to see you "anonette" tell <my best friend and collague f32> I said hello.TLDRPain changes men. Physical and or mental, doesnt matter.

>>33604126On a serious note, I wish I knew. Few things change me - all I do is work, so I am very comfortable with my current situation and don't think about it.Going out, being social, and seeing how people respond to me can somewhat short-term make me want to do better.Or trying something competitive and being completely walked. On the other hand, being old, I optimized most things already, so it's hard to dramatically change for the better without risking everything, if that makes sense.
>>33601484meh, it keeps him alivelike constant stress keeps people alive.there are many stories of people working 40 or 50 years and the day they go into retirement, they die suddenly, unexpectedly.their bodies acclimated themselves to the stress and then it suddenly stops and it doesnt know how to cope and their body gives out.>A chronic pain condition that has been going on since before I knew himif he isnt acclimated already to his pain and it is manageable, i would NOT give him pain medssad story all in all anonnette
>>33600376Hardship.If my paternal lineage is to be considered, by nature I'm a self absorbed Machiavellian who refuses accountability like my father and his father, but because I had a horrible abusive childhood I try to be kind for kindnesses sake and am often too hard on myself for things that aren't even in my control. I don't use my silver tongue for personal gain but love to use it to hype people up and push them towards happiness. You have more control over who you are than you'd think.
>>33604494>there are many stories of people working 40 or 50 years and the day they go into retirement, they die suddenly, unexpectedly.>their bodies acclimated themselves to the stress and then it suddenly stops and it doesnt know how to cope and their body gives out.Is this an actual phenomenon?
>>33606218no it's fucking retarded and even basic knowledge of how stress interacts with the body will disprove ityou could make an argument about losing the will to live, plenty of cases, but stress keeps nobody alive
>>33606267Yeah it seemed pretty absurd
