What does a former stoner high school drop out who knows little more than BEDMAS have to do to learn up to a grade 11/12 foundation of math? I want to get my GED after work. Night school isn't an option for my as I work 7-7 mon-sat and local schools don't line up with my schedule. I'd really appreciate any advice I can get. I thought there was a pinned post in the math board with reasources to learn, but my memory is poor and I probably misremembered

plenty of colleges offer free courses you can follow online. there's no penalty for not finishing them either. harvard is one of them but you can shop around

Most of the time, "being bad at math" is not a matter of getting the numbers wrong (2+2=5) but of not understanding what you're being asked to do. Problems look like "If a train is going 100 miles an hour and a right angle is 90 degrees, how much is a bag of peanuts?"

Here are some hints on figuring out what you're being asked to do before you try to do it

professor leonard on youtube is good
khan academy is alright
math sorcerer also on yt is ok, mostly recommends books aimed anywhere from highschool to uni

>grade 11/12 foundation of math
lmao literally just watch YouTube and practice for like an hour a day. you don't need classes for that level. you literally just need 90 or 100 days to absorb everything. there's nothing up to and including differential calc that takes anything beyond practice.

That's easy: $1.90!

Maybe you're thinking of this: https://4chan-science.fandom.com/wiki/Mathematics
Read the Precalculus section for recommended books. Find them on https://annas-archive.org/ by searching by titles under the "full database" heading.

I can do 3+7=10 and I can do 4 divided by 1 = 4 and 3 x 7 = 21 and that's good enough for me. What the hell is "BEDMAS"? Counting in your sleep? I don't need that shit

Morons (and basic education) think arithmetic is math.

Public education is so focused on the computation of small fucking natural numbers in ones head, it's genuinely hilarious. We have calculators and computers, and no human beats those in raw arithmetic, and we don't have the accuracy or speed to even do that in bulk, meanwhile our literal lives depend on tiny chips of stone doing huge arithmetic at a million times per second, continuously for years.

Plebs have no interest in the math humans have a real edge in, and couldn't even explain it to anyone else.

I've got an interest and can follow the pioneers, but haven't and won't fucking add to the real bleeding edge.
I rue god for putting me in this time period where I'm basically useless dead weight.

Meanwhile OP is dealing with retarded government standards. Tell me when those have ever been fucking useful?

The GED calls it math so that's what I call it. Idrc what I'm doing, as long as it gives me an opportunity for better jobs and to calculate sales tax in my head easily.

>Maybe you're thinking of this
That's exactly what I was thinking of. Thanks all for the advice. I'll schedule my small amount of time off to work on "arithmetic" and hopefully get this GED. a 40$/hr labourer job is on the line so I'm determined to learn.

AOPS books. They are idiot-proof. Start from AOPS' Prealgebra.
