I dont want to bore you with too many details. I have very extreme ocd, especially pure O, which is just so fucking debilitating. My therapist, although she does her work very well, often tries to convince me to start ssris due to a history of drug abuse and self harm. Im currently in school and quite close to getting in uni and actually achieving what i dreamed for yet it seems i need something to hold on to or my mental illnesses will consume me. I had a terrible history with zoloft, which i took all of my teenage years but i often hear that newer antidepressants such as lexapro have less side effects. MDMA and psychdelics are also something i consider

They made me take ssri's when i was 11 and it made me start acting out like crazy. I started exhibiting symptoms of bipolar disorder and it all went away when I stopped taking them. Based off of this experience I could never recommend them to anyone, at least not in good faith.

thats what im worried about, especially about loosing my emotions and empathy since that happened when i was on zoloft. Its like you could see in my eyes that something was missing. Is there any alternative to SSRIs?

I've had good results with NDRIs, specifically wellbutrin

If you don't want SSRIs there are some other drugs like Wellbutrin, Serzone, Effexore, and Asendin. Also if you're a Euro, they can use MAOIs. Really smth to talk about with the therapist, tell family if you start them, and monitor and record behavioral changes because side effects can be really serious, like suicidal ideation or schizo behavior

Definitely don’t do psychedelics, at least while getting into university is on the line. A single bad experience can set you back years with the resulting psychological changes.
SSRI / SNRIs are practically sugar pills in comparison. I’d say try them for 4 weeks but do it consciously.
The bad experiences you hear are those who are on them for years, decades. I’m not saying they’re completely safe, but the damage of untreated mental illness far outweighs their danger, of that i’m certain.

Just breathe manually and remember to check if the doors are locked and you didn't leave the lights on and the milk out.

Don't take SSRIs. You can get castrated by them. Horrible poison.

I cant get a girlfriend anyway in my current state, the only time i feel truly normal is after taking benzos, opiates or alcohol. There has to be something that could help along with therapy and meditation

There are many forms of antidepressants.

You've got SSRI's as you mention, but there are also SNRI's, tricyclic antidepressants, MAOI's and some others I don't remember. Depending on what it is you're trying to achieve, it's possible to use other kinds of medication (other than antidepressants) that might be effective. A friend of mine takes antipsychotics even though he's not psychotic, but because it helps against restless thoughts.
It's very difficult to predict how someone will respond to medication.

I understand that you have negative experiences with one antidepressant. But that's no guarantee for other types of antidepressants. The mind and body are very complex.

If you feel your therapist is competent and takes you seriously, I'd suggest exploring different options with her and talking about your concerns.
It's likely that it will take trying a few different kinds of medication until you find the right one.
Side effects suck, but the vast majority of side effects are temporary.
