Should I splurge 100k on a pool in my backyard?
That's 25% of my liquid assets, the ROI will be low, I won't use it that much.
But I still want it and I want it now while I'm still youngish (33).

Talk me into it / out of it.

I know 100k seems like a lot for a pool but where I live it's actually a normal price. I asked several quotes.

On earth pool

Ugly, inconvenient, ROI is even lower (not that this matters much).
It's either the real deal or nothing.

Then get the pool if you enjoy it. Money is for getting things you want.
Consider building it yourself if you want to save some shekels. Rent the heavy equipment and then build it brick by brick.

I've been informing myself and it's just too complicated to do that.
You have to drain the entire ground in advance for a few days, get a stabilizing concrete foundation etc... it's above my capacities.
Also it would likely be a pre-made polypropylene basin or something.

>Money is for getting things you want.
Or for making more money, which is the big conundrum.

I'm a proponent of "the line doesn't always have to go up". As long as your shit is in order and you've got a reasonable rainy day fund, I vote: But the thing you think you may want.
And that comes from a stingy motherfucker.

The ROI will be negative not low.
If you want chicks and enjoyment get a hot tub.
Not entirely sure what you're doing with a pool.
My suggestion is experiment, join a gym with a nice pool and see if you use it. Mine has a nice olympic size lap pool I never use; I lifted weights this morning. You may find you actually want something else. I'd suggest the hot tub but whatever.
Realize the operating expense can be huge like 10% the capital expense. You might have $400K in the bank but can you blow $10K a year on something you're literally "not using much"?
Another note is the ROI of a pool is so incredibly low you MIGHT be able to get paid (a little, not much) to move to a house with a pool. Its also a hell of a lot faster to move than to install a pool, sadly. Its just a pool, it should be easy to find a house with one, its not like you're demanding a fallout shelter or a rape dungeon (or both, or maybe you already got those two?)

Wtf no??? Nigga are you for real?

Donate the 100k to charity and sit in your bathtub

Bought a house with a pool. AT the time my son was a HS champion-level swimmer. After that, it never gets used. Waste of energy to keep it going in the summer. And suddenly you have tons of friends in the summer who want to use it.

Take the money and travel.
