I am a naturally born (American) citizen but my gf lives in a country that is very against America, to the point that it is considered something of a motto. Can I get a security clearance? If not, what are my other options as an aerospace engineer?

What country is your gf in? Do you live there too? Are you looking for a security clearance in the US or that country?
My understanding is that you may be flagged for additional screening but that it could be doable. Just make sure you don’t tell her anything or leave work files accessible to her. This is a question you should ask your employer AFTER you’ve accepted a position.

thats most of the world mate

>What country is your gf in?
Iran
>Do you live there too?
I live in America at the moment, I met her through a friend.
>Are you looking for a security clearance in the US or that country?
American security clearance, likely at Northrop Grumman as they have a plant in my city. Iran would not clear an American under any circumstances, though I do have some technical experience with UAVs and low cost flight systems (something common in loitering munitions, which is Iran's main defense export these days).

Good point, I am worrying a bit unnecessarily at the moment.

It is, but not as vehemently.

I don’t remember the disclosure requirements but I’m sure they’ve changed. But yeah, secure a job first is my advice then handle the details later.
Also, and I’m saying you have a reason to doubt, I’m just encouraging caution: have you met her in person? Make sure she isn’t a Fang Fang who just wants to have access to classified stuff.
>iran
Much of the Iranian populace dislikes the ayatollah. I know a bunch of Iranians who immigrated to the US and they’re pretty much all pro-US. However, you can be damn sure that Iranian authorities are monitoring your communications with her, potentially not even just metadata. That’s if they know your ip is in a western aligned country.
Basically just don’t talk about what you’re working on. Like I said though, clarify all that after you’re hired.

Also idk if you want to be a design engineer or what but shop around a bit. From what I’ve heard the ancient defense primes are highly bureaucratic. Best of luck to you though. You’ll get to work on really cool stuff either way.

I thought about that, she does not care about government secrets, really, she just wants a peaceful life, not be forced to wear a head covering and read more books that are not easily available in her country (Jean Jacques Rousseau springs to mind) and actually make a living wage instead of less than $2k per year.

Yeah, she is not against the US, but the US makes stuff weird with foreign nationals and security clearances because of how vague the "foreign influence" clause is.

We are using Telegram, so I already know that the Russians and Iranians are probably watching, so I am careful not to let on much.

They are, I am applying to Embraer's American division (in charge of executive jets), L3Harris and Leonardo DRS America. I might do General Atomics too.

Thank you for your help.
