This month I went back to university. Well, things have been heating up on my campus, specifically because of the Palestine vs Israel issue, and I got myself into a fucked-up predicament.I was walking to class last week, when this girl handed me a charity flyer and started shouting at me about "free palestine". She was wearing a hijab and she smelled really bad. It was really early in the morning and I was so annoyed by her interrupting my day, I blurted out at her "I'm not fucking giving money to terrorists". Everything erupted at this moment. A row of people blocked my path and demanded I recant my statement. Suddenly, iPhones were being placed in my face and recordings were being mad. I had a meltdown, screamed at them to leave me alone and ran home as fast as I could.Over the weekend, things escalated. Videos of me were published and now people are spreading the word that I am an "Islamophobe" and a "genocide supporter". I was already kicked out of 3 student societies of which I am a part of. I haven't attended a single class since that day and am worried I might be kicked out of uni.I genuinely don't know what to do. It feels like my entire life is over because of one, single, throw-away comment I made in rage.

Tell them what happened, that you just want to get back into classes. They'll do what they can to help you, and the LAST thing schools want right now is to be associated with a student getting harassed or whatever because they were anti-Palestine. The current government would LOVE to come down on them like a hammer for optics, and most schools are scared shitless of some protest happening on their campus drawing that kind of attention.If you end up fucking this up, just transfer to a different school or something, but cross that bridge when you get there. If anyone starts filming you, ask them to stop politely, then just report them to the professor if it's during class. If not, go to your college admin. It's sounds to me like the type of thing that probably seems like a huge deal but will blow over as time passes. "The internet is forever" but people's memories and feelings are not. For all we know, the way people feel about Palestine could shift dramatically in the next year or two. Those same kids that went after you might feel like complete shit and cringe at what they did later. Don't borrow extra trouble when you're plate is full now. Just talk to admin and figure out a way to get back to class. Let the rest shake out as it happens. And try not to chimp out in front of a camera anymore. That' what they want. >>33669242>>33669340I would add to this and say that, if you're feeling nervous right now, the most practical thing you can do while not going to campus is emailing the school, ideally get back to class asap, but if your professors record lectures or if you have online assignments you can do instead, you can try and minimize time at the campus for the couple weeks.A full school transfer probably isn't necessary.I don't know what it's like in britland, but in my campus (also not America), this sort of thing would blow over in like a week and normal people wouldn't care to begin with, especially if you're in a science program.
