I am unironically thinking about joining my countries military for their cyber command.I scheduled an appointment with a recruiter in a few days, but I would like to hear some first hand experiences, from people who did similar military roles (regardless of country). I know most of the stuff the recruiters tell you "slightly" deviates from the real day to day work, so any real talk is appreciated.I already got a CS Masters, security certs, job experience in InfoSec and passed a security clearance assessment for a previous job. Always had a thing for law enforcement or military jobs, but never followed through. However I need to make some form of career change because I feel like hammering my head against the wall every time my current boss asks me to hold ideation workshops with business retards on AI usage in their company or consulting managers on how to integrate ChatGPT into their Excel-sheets...
>>33681923I was in the australian army briefly but I left during the grace period they give you so I was only in for a couple months. I wouldn't really advise it just because all those army guys are total fucks. If I hadn't been allowed to leave I probably would've ended up blowing up myself and corporal on the grenade range that's how much they pissed me off. If you're alright with being at the mercy of completely unreasonable people and having to kiss their arse maybe it's for you. I know all the other guys in my platoon thought I was just a poofta cos I left
>>33681923Don't do it if you live in the United States. Our military doesn't fight for anything worth fighting for.
>>33681973Thank you for your insights. So you were able to leave during basic training?>>33681980It's not the US, but still a NATO country. >inb4 sign tappers
>>33681998I still wouldn't advise it, in that case. It's not an honest way to make a living.
>>33682000>It's not an honest way to make a living.Shit... then it seems like it's just aligning with almost every single fucking tech job I've encountered. I'm really looking for something different than "sell a bunch of retards some badly curated service/product/AI slop so Mr. Shekelstein can buy a new yacht next month"...
>>33682015"Run Mr. Shekelstein's war economy" is definitely not the way to do that.
I get paid six figures to touch a spreadsheet once in a while, deliver briefs, and do red/blue team stuff.I haven't done any real work in months.I'm living my best life.
>>33682088Ok. That doesn't sound too bad. What are the downsides?
>>33681998Yes I left from kapooka is our basic training. It was all mkultra mind control shit in there to train what they called instinctive obedience. I'm not going to get too specific because I think I have some legal obligations about not saying too much and I'm not sure where the boundaries are there - but the behaviour of the recruit instructors and to a lesser extent the other recruits just made me hate everyone and everything there. I do have an overly negative view just because this was all fairly recent and I'm still a bit annoyed by it, but still idk air force or navy but aus army is just filled with guys who want to be muh special operator and kill 10000 gooks / arabs with their qcb laser gadget ar setup then go to the RSL and talk about how it made them kinda sad too
>>33682093You'll get run over if you're autistic and delusional like most of the people here. I've seen many young folks get filtered because they don't know when to act and when to shut the fuck up. It's a good go, but I'd advise you look at whatever civilian equivalent first. NSA, w/ever.
>>33682134Following up since this isn't very useful. Any sort of military org has goals in mind, and you, as either a uniformed or civilian member of a command, will be expected to pursue those goals via whatever means. This usually means if you're smart you'll find yourself some business or civvy facing role and do jack shit. If you're more switched on, you'll be doing operator stuff according to your skillset and mentality. It's good fun no matter where you go, and I personally enjoy the people I work with - mainly because it's a far cry from the bitchy and weak people I've found in the normal world.Like the buddy over here who could only stomach a few months, it's not for everybody. But it's a solid career and if you go in as an officer, you can LARP as upper class society.
>>33682134>>33682172That's interesting. Thank you. I also can't stand most of the people within the business context. I'll take it, you are in the US armed forces?
>>33682183Not US, but FVEYs. I've worked with all member nations before and the US is a little more anal about everything than everybody else. Such is life.
>>33682088Look at you, carrying that water.
>>33682335WHO'S GONNA MAKE THE COFFEE? WHO'S GONNA WASTE HOURS OF THEIR LIFE ON MEANINGLESS POWERPOINTS AND SPREADSHEETS? HELL YEAH BUDDY
>>33681923Does anyone have any advice on the United States Air Force? Good jobs, what to do, what not to do, etc? Anything you should do before joining? Anything is appreciated.
>>33684637You're gonna want to be the fattest, dumbest retard possible. Do not think critically, and be fat and retarded.
>>33681923USAF DLI student here. None of my advice will probably but ask me anything anyway, obviously take everything I say with a grain of salt.
>>33684639Everything I have read about the USAF says otherwise. Is it really that bad?
>>33684642When did you realize you had no morals or principles?
>>33684647Are you moral, principled?
>>33682127Is that for the chair force too?I’ve got an interview lined up in November if successful I’ll be in wagga next year
>>33686877No chair force goes somewhere else. Look forwards to morning routine though you'll love it
