23 and idk what to do with myself. I don’t know what a better choice would be. I can go to community college for free near me or somehow get into the trades (idk where to even start with that, does it require schooling? do I join a union? I’m not familiar with it). Is college even worth it anymore? I was gonna go for a Comp Sci degree but everyone says it’s brutal getting a job for it after college and AI is changing everything.I just need to do something to get myself out of working a part time dead end retail job with zero real experience outside of retail/hospitality and on the verge of being a neet since I only get paid like ~$150-200 a week. Just want advice on what how to have get a good stable job/career without making a big mistake.
Please anons I’ll literally let you guys pick my life for me at this point like a choose your own adventure game
>>33693979you're going to make multiple big mistakes in your life, so don't sweat this next choice. That being said community college is a great way to meet other people and actually take classes you *might* be interested in without breaking the bank. and don't think too hard about it, the best choice is usually the one you just go for
I can speak for the trades. I am an electrician. If you are in the US, try contacting your local IBEW union hall. If not, try working in an open shop (non-union) and see how you like it. When you apply, be honest and tell them you don’t know shit. Trades are old school and care less about a resume than some other fields might. Tools (in any trade) are an investment you will need to make. As an electrician’s apprentice, you can expect to probably spend around $400 for basic tools but could get away with less if you need to. As a whole, the career won’t make you rich unless you own a business but the benefits can be great. It’s somewhat fulfilling. AI isn’t taking it anytime soon either. It’s only as dangerous as you let it be. I might try to come back to this thread tomorrow. I hope I was of at least a little help. I’m pretty tired. I never ever come here and just felt compelled to say something. Being young is hard these days. Also you’ll have to deal with retarded boomer fucks all day but that’s okay. Just go to work and keep your head down. Don’t pay to go to trade school either. Just find a company to go work for. Call them and bother them relentlessly.
>>33693979What do you want to be when you grow up? Put a different way, what kind of life do you want to live? Do you see yourself married/single? Living in city/suburb/country? House/apartment/other? Work in office/store/factory/outdoors/other? Work with brain/hands/back/voice? Primary interaction with people/machines/telephone/computer/nature/other? Work in suit/casual/uniform/overalls/other?
>>33693979Trades require you to go to community college. If you want to become a union electrician for example, you receive an associates degree from a community college.Do whatever you had a passion for when you were young and who cares what anyone thinks.Don't worry about getting a job or stability, everything is changing so fast. In your case, look at the programs at your community college and find out what looks interesting. Enjoy your early 20s. It is a time where you actually start to self actualize as an adult and find some meaning in your life. And you have plenty of energy to experiment and try new things. If you fail, the risks are almost zero. You can start over again.
