29, M. I've had receding gums on several on my teeth, but there's one top molar causing me grief. I've tried Sensodyne and Tom's sensitivity with an electric, as well as letting some applied by finger rest in the exposed root. I visited a dentist and got some fluoride prescription toothpaste i've applied every night. However, its still mildly sensitive at all times, and down right painful when something cold touches it.

Is a gum graft my only option here? I dont want to get one if I can avoid it, I've heard they're incredibly expensive, with even one tooth comparable to a full set of braces, and the pain is apparently several times greater than a wisdom tooth extraction. And that's not even taking into account they can apparently fail. I can maybe afford one graft, but not several teeth or a repeat procedure, as my insurance isn't worth shit beyond cleanings. Can I continue working on with fluoride, or is there an alternative procedure to a graft that can reduce the sensitivity?

best to ask the dentist brah

but just keep up keep up good hygiene practices (brushing teeth and gums, flossing, salt + war water rinse every now and then) obviously and so it doesnt get worse

My understanding is that gum grafts are your only option.

With that said, if you still have some enamel left down there - cut all sugar, don't snack, brush regularly, floss, RINSE WITH FLUORIDE MOUTH WASH.

> Can I continue working on with fluoride
Looks like you are doing that already, but probably not enough or eating too much sugar.

Or, you are just fucked. Who knows. Good luck anon-san. Shitty situation, one of those no one actually has real advice for.

what the hell is going on on the other side? is that plaque between your teeth?

Brush and floss every single day you fucking retard, and go to a dentist, you likely have quite a few cavities. Those yellow teeth are worrying.

I can tell from my experience with kinda iffy gums that were receding in places that you should get your teeth cleaned at the dentist regularly. I go twice a year and that even made the gums grow back over the exposed areas, no joke.

kek. It's not doing much good.
Other than flossing and brushing everyday, do a 2nd brush with bentonite clay powder (remineralization) + powdered clove (prevents bacteria). If you don't care about having slightly yellow teeth then a calendula tincture dissolved with water as a mouthwash is elite tier. My grandma uses it on her old aah teeth and her gums got tight and healthy.

I had a tooth where the gum was receeding a bit and my dentist plastered over it with the same stuff they fill cavities with and sanded it down to be flush with the tooth. Cost like nothing.

If your dentist won't do that get a new one.

I wish the picture was better.
There is no way your tooth "root" is actually exposed. There is no way you need a gum graft at this point in your life unless your gums look like mouth of sauron from that last lord of the rings movie.
I have a tooth that has been like this for years where the gum has receded and some extra dentin is exposed like you are showing.
It doesn't cause me any pain and isn't decaying or anything.
If you have gums that are starting to receded at 29, it is because you aren't getting regular cleanings at the dentist.
Regular cleanings with a competent hygienist will fix most minor gum issues.
Once I started having this done my gum health was restored in about a year.
The cold sensitivity could be a number of things. The pain is usually coming from sensitivity in the root of the tooth. I'm wondering if you have decay on the occlusal (biting surface) of the tooth. Or you could have an orthodontist issue where the tooth is constantly hitting wrong which is causing the sensitivity.
Sometimes getting the surface of the tooth filled will fix the problem.
And honestly sometimes you think sensitivity is being caused by the nerve but it is really just severe irritation at the gum line of that tooth.
