How do you know it's time to quit drinking?
>>33731324If you have to ask...
For me it was when I came to and I had beat the shit out of my girlfriend. Before that it was when I came to after having been stabbed. Before that it was when I came to after cheating on my ex.
I feel deeply sorry for alcoholics.I'm prone to addiction but alcohol never gave me a dopamine kick. It never made me numb to my pain. It's just fun for a while and then really quickly I get filled with existential dread.Still I kinda get it though. Once you associate alcohol with relaxation, it must feel really difficult to calm down without it.

>>33731324When I started day drinking on work days it became clear to me I had a problem. Also >>33731346>>33731390>it must feel really difficult to calm down without itBingo bongo. Sobriety after alcoholism fucking sucks, it's amazing to me I managed to get through the first 20 years of my life in that state. If I ever have kids I'm telling them to stay away from alcohol, period. Can't miss what you never had.
>>33731409>Can't miss what you never hadIt's actually incredible how much you can miss something once you've had itI never had an alcohol addiction, and I'm no expert on quitting techniques, but hear me outIn Finland, minors are not allowed to drink beer with 0% alcohol because le stepping stones logicBut what if it equally works the other way around? If a taste for non-alcoholic beers can develop into a taste for alcohol, maybe a taste for normal beers can develop into a taste for what is essentially a soft drink
>>33731324If you own a car it's irresponsible to drink at all ever. You will be able to tell the alcoholics in denial by who is mad at that statement.

>>33731324Nothing we say will help you anon. The only person to make you stop drowning in the bottle is ultimately You.You have to come to that conclusion yourself entirely fully wholeheartedly choose that for yourself. If you have any hesitation then you'll fail.If you have any second thought then you'll fail.If you aren't strong enough to hold yourself accountable then you'll need a support group to help youMany know that they only come to this conclusion when they hit absolute rock bottom. If you can before that, then your life won't be in ruins. Good luck anon, you are loved and you don't need a bottle to tolerate reality. Even if you don't believe in yourself, just know that I, a random internet stranger thousands of miles away from you. Will always believe in you.
>>33731560Ok then next time you drank 3 beers (you think you're fine but thats DUI) and drove and see a cop think about it. Or if you drank all night and had to drive for an emergency. I quit drinking a month after I got my current car. It's not worth the risks.
Woke up feeling especially bad today. Slept until about 11. Not even hung over just feel like im dying. Might sound cringe, but I felt like something opened my eyes up today. I took a look at my room I'd been sitting in the dark in all day. All my empties at my desk. These are from the past couple weeks and it's not all of them, just the ones that didn't make it to the trash
>>33731621My nightstand. I always keep a half gallon on it. My emergency pint. Usually it feels comfy, but it made me feel extremely shameful today. A bit of rationality breaking through.
>>33731630I really need to quit drinking, but the worst part is being alone. The thought of being alone and not drinking is terrifying. Now that the shortness of breath has passed I'm gonna pour a drink. Should I go to an AA meeting? Even that freaks me out, I'm pretty antisocial.
>>33731634Look I'm not gonna pretend to know what I would do in your situation but I strongly recommend that you actively try to relaxI see there's a can of monster there. Don't drink that shit.Unless you need it to be productive. There's a difference between caffeine as a tool and caffeine for recreation

>>33731324I have been drinking mostly beer for the last 9 years. I stopped drinking heavy stuff very early on and stuck with beer. I just love the taste. Anything else tastes like crap. However, I was told by my doctor that my liver enzymes are elevated, so I decided not to push it.In short, just get your blood test done and ask about the liver stuff.

Got down to getting drunk once a week which is nice. Used to be 3 or 4 times a week. Still have a few beers after work but getting better at stopping. Most helpful thing was finding new hobbies to keep me busy so I don't go do the hobbies I did when I would drink a ton. Used to play a shit load of dota 2 and would always drink when I played. I uninstalled it and a few other games and I don't end up getting nearly as drunk when I am at my computer. I bought a handheld Gameboy thing off aliexpress and use that instead of my computer, and I don't drink at all. It does feel nice to just completely destroy my brain sometimes. Very freeing.

>>33731324Once you hit morning-beer/shower-beer status, it's time to think about lowering your intake and figuring out what's causing you to drink so much. Work stress is usually the case. If you're unable to get through a night of sleep without a drink, you need to take your health seriously and taper down. If you drink because of feels, you will eventually drink all of them. Address the feels before they consume you. >>33732769>When you hide a stash of alcohol to avoid getting nagged or judged.I did that when I was at my worst. You aren't fooling anyone.
>>33731324>How do you know it's time to quit drinking? It's impossible to know. kek.
For me I just sort of hit a wall and realized damn I'm a dyed in the wool alcoholic. I gotta quit. At some point, for me, nothing had changed in my drinking habits, and I had humored it for a while, but eventually it was just so obvious and in my face that I couldn't play hooky mental games about it anymore.
>>33731324Rock bottomI have the gene and the trauma to make me spiral out. I immediately get a burst of energy and a good body buzz, almost like taking Friday off from work or something. This leads to a manic existential crisis the next day. Or week. Or weeks.Sobriety is tough. I ended up going California sober as an indulgence, which works. Still, I drink once a week (the only day I am permitted to drive after my 3rd DUI), but even that’s too much. The only solution I’ve found is to managed alcohol by drinking low ABV as a way to dial in work-stress and taper. My go-to is homemade kvass, which is just burnt bread lemons and yeast. This helps me “plan” drinking and it has a more medicinal vibe. It takes about 2-3 days to make and I sip its sweet carbonation. Once the yeast dies down it tastes just like the stuff I bought in Lithuania..Best of all, it can continue to produce alcohol in low ABV, which is low.I also don’t trust most commercial beer manufacturers ingredients so doing the homebrew helps avoid blinding hangovers and the need for liquors, which basically cause instant blackouts for me.
I fucking love drinkingAs long as my blood alcohol is going up, I'm happyI know I should quit and think of it often>>33732769other than memory, I don't have any of these yet>>33731324So to answer your question, before it turns your body to complete shitWe need runners high and nigh constant preoccupation, something else relatively healthy to shift to.
