Most people these days start with a CEX (centralized exchange, dw about it) like coinbase or binance. You can do everything from there but just warning you the fees can be abysmal on some of these so make sure to to your own research beforehand.
Depending on what sorts of crypto you want to buy you can also get your own crypto wallet like metamask or phantom which are also commonly used by beginners
