He's narcissistic as fuck and told me to my face one time that he thinks he's the best worker there when our current children's librarian was literally doing three people's jobs. She was the circulation manager, had to fill in as the children's librarian while the county was looking for a replacement, and had to do the branch manager's work while she was out having knee replacement surgery. I pull double duty as both a reference assistant and a circulation clerk (hoping to become the new circulation manager, but that's besides the point). Meanwhile he only has to worry about reference. He's been late constantly for the past few months, no called, no showed one day, and dicks around on his phone in the backroom multiple times throughout his shift when he's supposed to be at the desk. He's really into tabletop RPGs and will print out hundreds of pages of story content in full color for these stupid games, will 3D print crap for the games, and paint his little figures. Reading a book to pass the time when it's slow is one thing, but the shit he does is way too involved and distracts from actual work. He typically doesn't give the library any money for the stuff he prints by the way. (2/4)
He has the most toxic, dogshit views I have ever seen in real life. He is /pol/ incarnate. He describes himself as a libertarian but is truly just an alt-right dick. I find it rich that a librarian, a PUBLIC employee whose purpose is to serve the community, is so anti-government. He's acknowledged his hypocrisy at times but has said that he doesn't care about being a hypocrite. Tonight he told me he doesn't care about history. I was a history major in college and he knows that. "Preserving culture" and "traditionalism" are supposedly important to him, but he doesn't care about history. I'm 99% sure he gets his political views from alt-right grifters on YouTube like Critical Drinker and Asmongold. He's a Discord user so he likely gets his opinions from that as well. (3/4)
But the absolute worst thing is that he thinks we're on good terms. "Work friends" if you will. I am nice to everybody and a firm believer in treating everyone the way you want to be treated. Empathy and altruism are my guiding principles. However, just because I'm nice doesn't mean I like everyone or enjoy their company. I just know a little thing called common decency. If I were to guess he probably thinks that because we're both "nerds" we must be alike in other ways as well. I am telling you, we could not be more different. Sorry, for the blog post I just needed to put this out into the void.
