How do I be a Protestant? I've been Catholic all my life. All I know is operating within the structure Catholicism provides.

What kind of Protestant? Lots of denominations and non-denominations. Imagine Christianity but without strict rules and no central governance, words are outdated and the line of religion and cult blur. Protestants can be anything from religious psychos to part time religious people showing up once a year Christmas.
>>
Imagine standing on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange on a bad day. 1000 people all around you, all screaming, 1000 different conversations and so much noise you can't understand or follow what anyone is saying.
That is what Protestentism is. It's chaos, disorder, self-interested screaming but not being heard. Conflict. Schism.

Catholicism is The sacrifice of the Mass. The True Apostolic Succession, the unbroken laying of hands and conferring of Holy Orders from Christ to Peter, down through every bishop ever, to every priest, ever. Ceremony, tradition, contemplation, the meaning behind the words, the disconnect of the mind from the moment through repetition, to go deeper when the noise fades, so that the mouth and thebl conscious mind is repeating the prayer, and the unconscious mind is free to connect more deeply.
It sounds like you wish to go backwards, friend. Usually Protestents come to us, not the other way.

"7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find;
knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh
findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread,
will he give him a stone?
10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto
your children, how much more shall your Father which is in
heaven give good things to them that ask him?
12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men
should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law
and the prophets.
13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and
broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many
there be which go in thereat:
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which
leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."

"15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in
sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather
grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a
corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a
corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn
down, and cast into the fire.
20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall
enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will
of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we
not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out
devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you:
depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine,
and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which
built his house upon a rock:
25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the
winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it
was founded upon a rock.
26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and
doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which
built his house upon the sand:
27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the
winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great
was the fall of it."

It depends. The main difference is, or maybe was, that you don't have any earthly authorities. That's why a lot of them have been expelled and ended in the US. Like the Amish. And the most important thing is working and community. There are no shiny golden churches, no all powerful priests and popes. But over time they changed again and especially american evangelists and africans are just doing the same what catholics did. Taking the money out of their peoples pockets. tl;dr work until you die

I've attended many denominations of churches as a kid, as an adult with a family I'm now going to a moderately traditional Lutheran church with lots of other young families. I'm a bit over the ideological differences, church is church and the main thing I care about is the impact on the immediate community. If my beliefs don't get everything perfectly right I pray God will forgive me, just like all my other sins.

I have been reading some of Martin Luther's writings for the first time though, Bondage of the Will, and it's a lot of fun. Dude was an asshole shitposter, he would absolutely be dumping text walls here if he was alive today and calling people who argued with him gay.

Just go to your local strip mall church and ask Pastor Billy Bob.

Immediately return to the Church and talk to a priest. Abandon protestantism.

My wife was Catholic until a previous pope not being Catholic pushed her out of the church more or less (see also covid era hysterics by the church, which were cringe)
So now we're protestant mostly due to where her friends go, she's friends with one of the choir singers etc.
Pretty much imagine Catholic mass without kneelers and more electric guitar.
The congregation is much younger and hotter whereas some of the Catholic churches I'm familiar with are essentially all retired peeps or fat foreign invaders who don't speak English.
Its pretty chill.
There's a seemingly infinite variety of prot churches so its fairer to describe at "Catholic and non-Catholic" rather than "Catholic and anything specific".
The main thing I miss from the covid era and my early protestant era was cracking open an ice cold "communion beer" while watching church online.
The prot people are friendlier, which seems weird because the Catholics would seem more uniform but they aren't as friendly so who knows.
Generally prot sermons are extraordinarily long. Some elderly Catholic priests seem to phone it in and their sermons are like 5 minutes, whereas prot church is "sit down for a college length lecture".
