I'd like to make learning math easier instead of memorizing formulas to solve problems. I feel like it the answer is in my grasp but I haven't figured it out. I need to learn up to calculus 2 form algebra 2 by next year, so I want to get some good habits in

>>33787621This is anedoctal, although Serge Lang made the same point, but often students who struggle with (proof-based) calculus are weak in algebra. People tend to look down on algebra, like they just assume 5 + x = 1 is algebra, or some routine step-by-step algorithm, and that's it. "I can't do the algebraic manipulation" is an excuse I hear often. It's not that straightforward to process what's given to you to get the delta epsilon proof, inequalities, etc. you need to solve the problem.

There is no point, trust me. Mathematics has a hard cutoff at 110 IQ (1 sigma) and a soft cutoff at 130 IQ (3 sigma). You arent going to understand anything below the hard cutoff, and you arent going to produce anything worthwhile below te soft cutoff.

>>33787618I always liked figuring out how the formulas came to be, for those that didn't happen before the literal invention of writing there might even be a real story behind it. It's not a common mindset in STEM since it's unrealistic to do it for everything, but being able to create something is the ultimate form of understanding.
