Got into a fight with my neighbor the other day. I was standing in my apartment lobby, he walked in. I smiled and said “Hey X, how are ya?” and he said “Fuck off, Anon.” I said “What?” and he just flew off the handle, going “You heard me dipshit, fuck off.” I stood my ground a bit, saying “X don’t talk to me like that what the fuck?” He went “What’re you going to do about it pussy? You wanna take this outside?” He body checked me by bumping his chest against me. I shoved him in response and we got into a spat. After a few blind swings (I don’t know how to fight, didn’t seem like he did either) without making much contact, I got ahold of his wrists and told him to stop. We stood there, he stared and whipped his wrists out of my grip. He backed away while cursing me out and walked on to his unit. We have a front desk receptionist (old Arab dude, nice but wouldn’t have been able to do shit) who watched the whole thing and he was completely taken aback. It’s all on camera too, no audio tho.

Ive known this guy for 3 years. We don’t talk much and I wouldn’t even call him an acquaintance, but he’s NEVER acted like this. He’s only ever been pleasant. I get people have bad days, but he came out of nowhere and immediately escalated it and clearly wasn’t satisfied in the moment with a “standstill” outcome. I’m kinda worried for my safety. We use the apartment gym at the same times sometimes and I don’t want him dropping a fucking dumbbell on my head while I’m doing bench press. Should I submit a police report? Or is it worth trying to work this out in another way? I don’t want him going to jail but frankly I don’t want the guy in the same complex as me.

Wish I made it up. Isn’t all that entertaining of a story, pretty embarrassing desu. I dont think I even landed more than a punch, I mostly blocked. He took me by such surprise and he just immediately flew into it. He might’ve been on drugs? But he didn’t smell like alc

At any rate im not sure what to do

Why would you report it? Sounds like he was in a shit mood and you wanted to be confrontational and nobody got hurt. Seems like it's already resolved
I would just ignore him from now on. It's not like he's going to sucker punch you the next time you cross paths

I didn’t want to be confrontational, what else was I supposed to do in that situation? Just shut up? “Walk away”? I was grabbing my mail after I got off work

Was definitely just having a bad day. If you don't want it to be awkward as fuck every single time you see him from now on, just swallow your pride and apologize (even tho its not your fault). Say something like "Hey im sorry for escalating that shit from the other day, we cool?" and I guarantee he will feel like shit and also apologize. Most people dont like unnecessary conflict.

You didn't do anything wrong in my opinion, he touched you first.

It sounds like he had a very rough day and he just snapped. It usually happens with the nicest people that you wouldn't suspect of lashing out like that. Personally, I would tell him in person or in a letter that what he did was completely uncalled for but you understand that he's probably going through some shit right now since he's usually such a nice guy, yada yada, and that you apologise for letting the situation escalate. If you're comfortable with it, tell him that you're also free to talk.

Mind you, none of it has to be heart felt or sincere but gritting your teeth and using honeyed words to deescalate is much less of a headache than dealing with the cops when handling someone with a bruised ego like that. If he's not a total piece of shit, he will get over it and apologise.

Thank you for the earnest advice, if I get the chance to talk to him, I’ll just swallow my ego and apologize. I guess I’m just dreading him standing his ground, calling me an asshole, and walking away. Like, I don’t know what to expect from him at this point. But there’s no use in expecting the worst, might as well just try to shake hands and call it even.

If he doesn't meet your apology halfway insult him and then notify your apartment management about it

How do you guys act like this? Like no homo but this is so fucking manly and I could never do this. If he told me to fuck off I'd just be like "Alright bro" and move on. Getting violent is so fucking scary. I need to take boxing lessons or smth

It seems like there is this fine line where if a retarded nigger spergs out on you and you beat him to death you are a bad guy and a criminal but if you are both pussies and hold hands then you are manly as fuck

Fucking jej

Report what? You started the fight by shoving him. Next time, just walk away. It's not worth the risk.
