I was setting up the “Identity Theft Monitoring” feature in Microsoft Defender (part of Microsoft 365), and it asked for my Social Security Number. It says it’s powered by Experian and claims it’s used to verify my identity and check for data breaches or credit fraud.I’m a bit skeptical because giving my SSN to anything online feels risky, even if it’s Microsoft. Has anyone here actually used this feature? Is it legitimate and secure, or is it better to just stick with free tools like HaveIBeenPwned or password breach checks?I just want to know if it’s worth trusting this or if I should skip the SSN part entirely.
