Whenever I go on 4chan I find that it can lead you to becoming a bigger degenerate, finding new fetishes, porn etc... but sometimes I also find plenty of advice on how to improve your lifeWould you say 4chan is a positive or negative influence?
>>33835173I only follow the /adv board. I used to frequent /sci and I once looked at the beautiful women, but found insufficient value in either of those.
>>33835272Oh, your question.. I like to help people if I can, even if that help means giving them a good beating, so i consider 4chan adv to be a net positive.
>>33835173Evil.I came here as a misfit kid seeking the company of other likeminded people. At first the chaos and indiscriminate hostility were refreshing. It felt like everyone was on an even keel, unlike the world I lived in. But as I grew older, I began to feel the people on here were simply feeding each other's resentments and becoming ruled by them, instead of learning how to move past them and grow as individuals.A lot of anons seem stuck in this cognitively dissonant state of feeling like losers, while also feeling like everything is stupid and beneath them.
Negative. You spend enough time on the popular boards and it becomes apparent 90% of the threads are dishonest engagement bait. Losers who will say any stupid shit they can for replies. You don't want those people as friends and their opinions are worthless. So why come here?
>>338351734chan may be neutral, and how you use it — skews it.Take /t/, for example; there are threads for e-books, from the ground up educational materials for Mathematics and the like, emerging technologies, occult technologies(Isaac Newton's, etc.), extremely rare books, instruments, entire Ivy League university classes, templates, research findings, airplane flight performance data, and entire libraries you would exhaust your life and the next few in consuming. For /g/, there's programming, cyber security, penetration testing(L.O.I.C. was developed in 4chan), general threads for tech workers, covering digital footprints, development of retro-technologies such as explosively pumped flux compression generator(EMP) to be more efficient in the package of coke cans.In /diy/ there is welding, the repair of almost anything, construction of almost anything, schematics and blueprints, brewing your own alcohol, drone and radio control, off-grid power sources and supply.
>>33835272>I only follow the /adv boardthis only makes sense if you're also a botadv is the worst, slow and highest botpost %
>>33835173 Not everything is a tool. Sometimes people just want to hang out and talk about stuff. Too bad normies ruin that.
>>338354564chan's metrics are declining in general, why do you think they got rid of IP counters? Most of the threads and posts nowadays are schizos spamming the same thing over and over. 4chan has no relevance any more, in large part because of the election tourists who've destroyed the site's culture over the past decade. We have no influence, no creativity, no humor. We are destined to rot away until the server costs finally outweigh the generated ad revenue and hiro pulls the plug.
>>33836766 Chill bro you didn’t have to ruin my shitposting day today. Chilllllllllllll BROooOo
>>33836766I didn't know that actually, but it makes sense.I have a theory that a lot of what made 4chan unique escaped captivity and seeped into the mainstream. I've seen attitudes and ideas born here reflected by IRL in ways I never thought possible. In the early 2000s I considered it heresy to see trollface t shirts sold in tacky gift shops. Now I see presidential administrations and even my parents succumbing to the 'everything is a joke, nothing is serious, and you're a loser if you act sincere' mindset of this place. It's disturbing. My friends and I adopted that mindset because we were insecure kids who wanted to create a mental bulwark between ourselves and the world. But we grew out of it. Now it's like the whole world is being dragged back to that place.
>>33835173>Would you say 4chan is a positive or negative influence? This is a hard thing to categorize. What one person can indulge in with little to no issue another person can completely lose themselves in. Drugs, alcohol, sugar, exercise, sex, adrenaline sports etc., All of these are things that can be used for good or bad. It depends on the person.
>>33837654But drugs, alcohol, etc. are things to be used at one's own discretion. They come with no biases.4chan is a collective of people trying to impose their ideas on each other. They might not all share the same opinions, but there is definitely a majority rule when it comes to political and cultural issues. Not saying I agree or disagree with that majority - but I think that's how you'd make your evaluation between good or bad.
>>33835173>>33836107Literally the only good thing about 4chan, especially now in current year, is that it's anonymous and you don't need to sign up. It's one less potential hole in the fence of cybsecurity where every few months or weeks there's another website that got h4x0r3d and everyone's personal info got leaked. Also the pirating scene is still decent with not everyone being an epic nerd about "spoonfeeding" and gatekeeping shit, especially with anime.Otherwise whether you're looking for general life advice or specific communities based around hobbies, you're better off in whatever other websites, apps, and forums.
>>33835173lol this place is pure chaos, some days and some places are wholesome others are pure filth, like polyou can't really weight the influence of 4chan that simplybut if I was forced at gunpoint to do so, it's more of a negative place than a positive one
>>33835173both. not to be a dork, but freedom is a tool for good and evil
>>33835173Evil: It's a parasite like any other corporation, just a tool to make money and send it up to the owner. Nothing we say here matters, they're just distracting you from the wage cage while trimming obligations from their side of the social contract
Good: doxing, resistances, anonymous and mysteriesActually I'm here for the last.... abot 4/7 cases (?I lost the count) where 4chan was the hero doxing or just solving cases that other social networks can't even speak about. That's so funny!! Lmao
>>33835456Tl;dr it‘s a stoic place
>>33835173definitely evil. i feel like the men here really hate women on average, that's not positive
>>338376434chan influence on the world was so fucking crazy the last couple of years it has to be done soon
>>33835173>Is 4chan a tool for good or evil? There are no such things as tools of good or evil. Only evil or good people that use them for their purpose. People that chronically use a tool can become influenced by those good or bad actors.>>33841187>i feel like the men here really hate women on average, that's not positiveThat's probably true for men, especially here, who have never received even a crumb of female attention in their lives i understand why they get so resentful. Either way, go to reddit or imgur, the hatred is the same story but other direction, I halfway can't blame the women for their resentment, they feel like they are getting productive relationships from the men they see.
>>33835173Personally, I’d say my experience has been more positive than negative.A few months ago, I started spending more time on the /adv/ board. At first, I was just browsing like anyone else, seeing the usual mix of sarcasm, memes, and random life advice. But I realized I could actually do something meaningful there. Instead of just lurking or joining in on the mockery that so often dominates the boards, I decided to genuinely try to help people. I focused on giving real advice, thoughtful responses, and encouragement wherever I could.I’ve been doing this almost every day for the past three months. It’s become a kind of habit, not just responding for the sake of it, but really thinking about how my advice could actually make a difference, no matter how small. Sometimes the conversations are challenging, or people respond with cynicism, but I try to stay patient and consistent.Do I know if I actually helped anyone? Honestly, no. It’s impossible to track. But even if just one person out of the hundreds I’ve replied to managed to quit a bad habit, see life in a new light, choose healthier relationships, or make a decision that improved their life, then I feel like it was all worth it.In a weird way, being active on /adv/ has improved me too. It’s taught me patience, empathy, and the value of trying to contribute something positive, even in a place that’s often chaotic and harsh. So while 4chan definitely has its dark and degenerative sides, I’ve found that if you approach it intentionally, it can also be a surprisingly constructive space.
>>33835173Negative, it's mostly resentment, brainwashing, and porn. Many times I have seen on this board from the aware, "I cannot wipe 4chan thoughts from my brain." From the unaware it just kind of spaghettis everywhere and it's obvious.
