What should I do here?

>dishwasher at homeless shelter kitchen
>everyone usually finishes eating by 7:30am
>I finish washing dishes by 7:45am
>but there's a group of guys that like to just sit and chat with their homeless buddies till 8:00am and they hold on to their dirty dishes and cups while they chat
>I need to be done and gone by 7:45
>management never tells them to leave even though they're supposed to be done eating by 7:30
>at 8:00 they bring their uneaten food and dirty plates to the dishwashing area when I've already wiped down the surfaces and shut down the dish washing machine
>they leave a mess on the table

What should I do? Always wait for them till 8:00? Or just leave at 7:45 and let the 12pm lunch cleanup crew complain that there's still a mess and some stray unwashed dishes left on the table because management wont make these men leave at 7:30 like everyone else?

You should not be washing dishes at a homeless shelter.
>>

Get a better job. Fuck homeless people, this is why I have zero sympathy for most of them.

kek well yea I guess yeah
>>
>>33836200
First off are you getting paid for your time? If you aren't you shouldn't be complaining anyway. If you are you should get a better job.

ask your supervisor.

Look, that’s just what it’s like working a job like that. I had one where we used to pre-close and clean up 30-45 minutes before close, and always get pissed when someone came in during those last 30 minutes, but that’s the job.
>>
You could try going over there and asking to grab their finished plates and silverware

Why do you need to be done by 7:45?
>>
>>33837042
Lol, I remember one time I tried to go into a Wendy's at like 9:40pm, and one of the workers stopped me at the door and told me they were closed. The sign said their lobby hours end at 10pm.

Why are you seducing me with a woman in a red dress?
>>
>>33836200
It is really as simple as saying "no"
If there is an expectation for a commitment to finish at 8AM (which there is, if management does nothing about it) and you need to be out of there at 7:45, then don't commit to it. It's on you buddy. Let the management know that you need to leave by 7:45, and they'll have to find somebody else if your needs aren't accommodated.
Should be very easy if it's volunteer work. If it's a job, I'd recommend not working for a paycheck at a fucking homeless shelter.

You people really hate the homeless huh? lol
>>
>>33837079
Here’s another fun fact: the milkshake machine is never broken; the manager just fucked up and didn’t buy enough mix.
>>
>>33837192
lol oh that's a classic
>>
>>33836200
Is there any policy forbidding you from going out and collecting their dirty dishes at fifteen til? I’d do that if I were you.
>>
>>33837178
I (>>33837111) don't, please state where I said I hate the homeless.
My point is that spending your life washing dishes at a charity for a living when you could be building something, is a waste. If you want to do it as volunteer work I absolutely commend it, but to complain about having to leave 15 minutes late (from volunteering!) doesn't make any sense. You chose to be there nigga

I started a thread about food banks once on the cooking board and it was immediately bombarded with insane schizophrenic rants about how every homeless person should be dead in a ditch.

Appreciate the help for the homeless, good on you anon.
Try letting that group know about it. Tell em you don't care if they hang out and chat but you're getting shit from management cause of the dishes. Maybe they'll be nice and go "oh our bad no one ever told us" and that'll be that. Otherwise its a management issue and should be escalated. Maybe write an email detailing the issue so there's a paper trail if it continues being an issue.

#1 thing don't stick around to work late for not getting paid

simplest solution is leave the dirty dishes for lunch crew leave when your shift is over. if people come to give you shit tell them you aren't staying late for free and those dishes showed up after your shift was over so it's on someone else to either make sure the dishes are collected or pay you for the extra time. a table of dishes really shouldn't matter to the next crew it's like 30 seconds in the machiena ssuming you have a real restaurant kitchen dishwasher
