>a year ago, my brother was in need of a new laptop.>my parents were going to buy him a new one but were technologically inept>I started researching gaming laptops for him and found a few that seemed to cover his needs.>he expressed interest in the framework laptop 13 because I had one.>I explained that the 13 inch runs on an igpu and doesn’t run games as well as a dgpu. So a gaming laptop was more bang for your buck unless you plan on playing with Linux programs a lot and upgrading every few years. >he said he does a lot of coding in school and Linux wouldn’t be that big a jump for him. >we favored his wishes.>I cut down the price tag down by upping my own ram and giving him my old set. And by giving him a Linux disto to start with.A year later>he’s just used the thing for playing chess and watching YouTube.>his old laptop is his primary for major task like games and coding.>he had issues getting a specific school program on the framework because the district I gave him was immutable. So he just stuck with what he knew on windows after that.I feel like I made a mistake getting him something that’s used like a Chromebook. But there are a few solutions.>install a new distro that’s designed for gaming and has plenty of terminal guides. This one he’ll try.>sell it basically for the price it was bought at and get him a laptop with a dgpu. But he says he’s gonna stick with what he has now and doesn’t want to change anything. Do I just stop pushing here? I still feel like he would’ve got more out of my original pick for him. but it’s his gift from us, his opinion is what matters. It’s just such a waste.
