Hi, made a new account, first time on telegram. Joined a page from instagram. Was in it overnight, and woke up this morning to an in-app text from someone with the same area code as me. It was a weird message, not necessarily threatening but included the name of a town near mine, assuming I live there. Is this normal on telegram? I didn’t share my contacts and I thought I made my number private.I had previously tried to use a text verification app to make my account and it got “frozen” within like two hours. So I used my actual phone number and now that feels like a mistake. Very dumb app, frankly. Thought this was supposed to be about privacyPic unrelated
To add to this, he has a town nearby to me, but has gone on to accuse me of being someone with the wrong name who he thinks knows two people I’ve never heard of. Is this a common telegram scam of some sort, or is this a random schizo? He won’t tell me how he found my number/account. Just keeps insisting that I am the person he thinks I am.
scamand telegram is not about privacy, they happily give your metadata and messages to any agency who asks. you can "start a private chat" in order to activate E2E encryption (=hide your messages), but that's about it. and this feature becomes a bit more hidden each time the telegram interface gets an update.
>>33845346How would that scam even function? What does he stand to benefit from accusing me of being someone specific that I’m not?
