Painting vs Music, which hobby is better?
I do both and am good at both, but I want to be a master at something for once, so I want to pick one to have it as my autistic obsession.

By painting I'm referring to both traditional and digital painting.
By music I'm referring to playing multiple instruments, singing, and recording/producing music.

Art pros:
>Easier to measure progress and get feedback.
>The ability to make things look good is a somewhat useful skill on its own.
>Could set up a Patreon if I decide to sell my soul.

Art cons:
>The existential dread of AI art only getting better and better.
>Completely self-isolating hobby.
>Sitting for too long hurts my ass.

Music pros:
>Somewhat AI-proof unless they start making actual humanoid robots.
>I get to play with cool people regularly 2-3 times a week and make connections.
>It might get me laid one day.

Music cons:
>The existential dread of 200 000 tracks being added to streaming services every day.
>"Good at music" is such a subjective term that the road to mastery is unclear.
>Gear is expensive.

I know we are all different, but which one would you go for personally?

There are a lot of metrics to consider when evaluating which is the best outcome for you. I'm in my 30s and went the Art route and have friends that picked their paths too.

Art is easier to promote and sell online. It's also a hobby that has fairly low cost entry, easy to find time for and creates a lot of utility for very self-reliant expression. So during the build phase, it's easy to speedrun the XP grind if you commit and social media creates a lot of quick dopamine hits if you can put out something worth looking at. Socially it doesn't offer much though unless you want to integrate into your local scene - galleries, local art school events, etc. Longer term it's important you figure out how to offer your skills to businesses - painting their stores. Or selling products online - prints, tshirts, comissions etc. Can lead to tattoo job. Easy to build around a job.

Music is tougher in the opening stages because it's the opposite of art. Social media and music is a tough one to get people interested in. Skill and service wise you become more limited unless you can nail mastering/production/recording for others - even then, it's an oversaturated world. You can get jobs being the Sound Tech / stage hand for a venue etc if you learn the live music and sound side. The major advantage of music is that it's a very social thing. Even if you don't make it, you will meet a lot of people - it's a lifestyle, community and can get you laid. But it will eat your life and if you don't let it, you won't get much from it.

Personally I did Art. I enjoy it. But realistically its two sides of same coin. Loads of immensely talented people going nowhere and being broke in the process.

I'd do music as it's easier to turn off your mind. With art you are often blocking yourself and more depressing. But if you can let go and then art would be more rewarding. Both assuming you do it for yourself and not for others.

How about both? You don’t need to limit yourself. You can even mix the two together. Make music what you think your art sounds like. Or make art what your music sounds like. I’m an artist but I do have a desired to make music and I need to fit it in my schedule. I’m still young and mobile so I want to do that. Live your life! You’re only limiting yourself because of societal expectations. Also I’m guessing you want these to be your jobs? Don’t call your interests a hobby. You don’t work for your hobbies.
