I don't want to go to college anymore and the careers I was setting myself up for are going to vanish if I seek professional help. What do I do? Give up? Become a depressed fat dropout wagie?
You'll have to give us more details than that boyo. What are you studying first of all?I'm sure whatever's going on will blow over, take a breath and chill
>>33891769Studying criminal justice for law enforcement but I've been doing ROTC too. I've been suicidal for a long time but only recently have I been starting to put thoughts into plans. I feel depressed no matter what and I feel my life will truly go nowhere if I lose these opportunities.
>>33891794You need a criminal justice degree to be a cop? That's news to me.If keeping these opportunities is contingent on you not attempting to kys, then it would be prudent to continue resisting the urge like you've been doing. If you cave, the attempt had better actually kill you, or you'll be really screwedOr consider pursuing a career where having scars on your arms or whatever doesn't disqualify you. I'm sure nobody will ask a civil engineer to roll up the sleeves of his button-up.
>>33891794On second thought: I'm sure this is not what you want to hear, but the thin blue line probably does not need more people with mental instability in their ranks. If the path you're on is contributing to (or at the very least not helping to alleviate) your suffering, it would be wise to try something else, for your own sake and the sake of the public.

>>33891794>Studying criminal justice for law enforcement but I've been doing ROTC tooIn my opinion, it seems like both of these things will be around for a while.Depending how far you are into the course, I would just stick it out. Sunk cost fallacy type shit.

>>33891765>>33891794Are you certain getting counseling completely disqualifies you from your career ambitions? I know a pilot that takes SSRIs.
>>33891808Some agencies require a bachelor's and it gets you promoted faster. You also need a bachelor's if you want be an officer in any branch of the military. I've been thinking about changing my career path but this is the third time I changed my major and I graduate next year. >>33891823You're right and that's my dilemma.>>33898100Civilian pilot or military pilot? The fact that I'm suicidal in college goes to show I'm not mentally fit for high stress high danger environments like the military or law enforcement. I'm fucking screwed.
>>33891765Not wanting something is not enough. You have to want something else.
>>33891765This exact thing happened to me less than a year ago. Was planning to be an officer in the military, told my parents that I had been thinking of killing myself and they forced me to seek professional help. Worst decision of my life. The reality of the situation is this: your material situation matters way more than anybody will admit. I personally managed to scrape by through my last semester of college, and was able to get a decent job (albeit not the one I was planning on) after graduating through an uncle. Money genuinely did more to cure my depression than any amount of therapy ever did. Here's what I would do if I were you:>take a break from school, maybe 1-2 years off. Plan to go back eventually>get the highest paying job you can in the meantime, blue collar will probably be the way to go if you don't have a degree>save your money to use in the future, but also don't be afraid to treat yourself a bit>watch as your depression vanishesIt's really that simple. Getting out of your environment and doing something else that's productive is the best way to cure depression. Whatever you do, DO NOT see a doctor and DO NOT take the pills. Good luck anon I've been in your exact shoes. You will be fine.

>>33891794Does it occur that you're genuinely unsuited to high stress professions and you'd be better off shifting into something else?
>>33899216Thank you anon.>>33900188Yes but its too late for me to turn back. Unless I can do something with a criminal justice degree that is as sustainable as law enforcement but doesn't require a clean psyche, my options are limited.

>>33902378I don't want to do grad school. I'd never be able to pay off that debt. I appreciate the suggestion though
