Laid off from IT, entry level resume. Most of the jobs don't pay enough to make any progress, maybe enough to stay in place. I've been at my condo for 9 years, owe 99k on it. It needs repairs and is worth 150k fixed up. Right now best offer is 121k which doesn't leave much after realtor fees.I was thinking of getting an RV and paying $600 a month for rent and insurance at an RV lot, all inclusive. I'm also working remote sales and got one deal that should get me about $10k after taxes. I've been doing that for about a month. My bills are 1k higher at the condo so when the first commission check hits is right when unemployment runs out and I start losing 1k a month to stay here with my part time job. If I move I can break even with the part time job and yolo any commission I get into crypto. What would you suggest, stay and try to get more commission before unemployment runs out in February (with part time sales and part time waging) and fix the condo up and invest, or move, cut expenses and save up cash for investing? Downside being, no more homeownership. Also, the location and demographic of the RV lot looks good. It's not a degenerate lot with a bunch of tweakers, it's either millennials trying to save money or vacationers.
you should kill yourself
>>33893210I was going to write a long post, but then I deleted it.RV living is going to be more expensive than you think and then you will be stuck without a permanent living situation. Also RV living is a whole different breed of people and living. You may hate it, you may love it.Unless the area you are in is dead and there is no possibility of employment and you can't get anything remote, you should probably stay.At a bare minimum use some temp job to get the money to fix it up so you get the full $150K.
>>33893210where exactly do you live? When you say owe 99k do you mean that is what is left of the mortgage? Is the 150k the equity you would get after sale? If you had a job in IT a basic starting job in software dev here in socal is like 65k which should be more than enough if you are single with no kids. Do you have a lot of debt?>Most of the jobs don't pay enough to make any progress, maybe enough to stay in placeYou should focus on stabilizing yourself first then go from there regardless. interest rates are insane right now so anyone thinking of selling is crazy if you have the chance to not
>>33893361In a low COL state in the South. Yeah I owe 99k on the mortgage and the place would probably get 150-160k on the market fully completed. My experience level in IT usually tops out around 50k a year, I have no degree. I have some general IT help desk experience, basic system admin stuff. I do pay about $900 a month to debts including car, some old credit cards, etc.
>>33893326You're a gang stalker / bottom feeder, kys please
>>33893377from what it sounds like it would be insane to sell if the condo only sells for 150k and your usual salary is about 50k a year. Im not sure why you think RV living would be any more financially sustainable because what >>33893357 said. what is the car that you have by the way? your "going forward" should be consolidating your debt as soon as possible.
>>33893377Oh and another thought, what is the layout condition of the place? Why isnt getting a room mate an option?
>>33893389I would probably just rent a cheap room for like 600 instead, after further consideration. This would free up my cash at closing, I'd probably be able to then invest about 15k right off the bat into the next bear market, then the commission and some other cash coming my way. About 20-30k total, if BTC goes back to 30-50k and back up to 250k+ I figure that's way easier than paying the mortgage off over time. It's a variable rate heloc as well so principle ups the payment by 400 a month right before 2030. Alternatively, I could keep going for sales commission and try to just pay the place down to maybe 60-70k, clear the other debts and invest, keeping some savings on the side. I only owe $5k on my car.
>>33893391It's under 1k sqft, floors are not completely installed, have most of the materials for the remodel but kitchen cabinets were mostly torn out due to rot and the whole thing was redone or at least started. If I finished it and got a roommate I could probably get 500 a month for the smaller room.
>>33893394Pretty hard to time the market. After 20 years, only 5% of professionals outperform buy and holding the S&P 500.Just put in the extra work the next 5 years. Get a couple crap jobs if you have to and work 60 hours a week.Start by paying off your credit card debt, then your car, and then work on making an extra couple payments on that mortgage a year.Don't bet your future on pie in the sky ideas like Bitcoin going to 20K and then jumping to $250K.Not saying it won't happen, but this isn't realistic thinking. Now if are just unhappy with your current life and want a change, there is nothing wrong with moving. But it doesn't sound like this is the case.
>>33894580There are definitely psychological and lifestyle reasons for wanting to move, but I'm very hesitant to do so yet
>>33893210If able to, you should fix it up and rent it out. Real estate is a good way to earn money but can be a lot of work so idk if thats the play.
>>33896660Well it needs a bunch of stuff done, at least probably 15k worth. Renting it out, I would break even after expenses so it'd be like a savings account but with a lot more risk and downside than just going S&PAlso, my neighbor called the cops on me at one point during an argument with my gf and this was part of me having a criminal record (had words with another neighbor who was nosy who then said I threatened him and I was charged with assault)
