I've been trying to send the family dog back to my dad's house bc the dog is really old and I feel bad keeping him cooped up in what are probably his final years in my one bedroom apartment.

My dad insists that I need a watch dog since I'm living on my own, and says he'll only take Luna back if I:
1. Get a new watchdog of big enough size to replace her
2. Move back home
3. Get a bf or a roommate

I care a lot for this dog, and she deserves to run around in my dad's big yard for as long as she can. She's miserable in my tiny apartment alone all day while I'm going between class and work.

I don't know much about dogs, I grew up with Luna but I'm kind of nervous around other dogs and would rather not get another. If I do get another dog, what kind would be easy to train but big enough to scare off the problems my dad worries about?

Tell him you no longer care for the dog and will put it down unless he takes it off your hands (this can be a bluff).

If he shrugs then you know whats up.
