So I want to get serious about drawing and get a drawing tablet. What I see everywhere is that you should get one that doesn't have a screen, but I don't have a laptop and I don't want to be chained to my computer desk while I'm drawing. The ones with screens are more expensive which is expected. What do you think?

Get a job.

After trying many hobbies that involve "entry level" stuff here's what I've learned.

Never buy "starter" shit. If you want to try out a hobby and drop it, rent or get refurbished/used, but get at the very least the standard professional grade item.

I have
>Got a $70 violin, sounds like shit and don't know who can fix it. Since it's heavily skill based value is right but i wish It sounded less tinny.
>Got a used APS-C DSLR. Wish it was full frame. Ever since getting a set of tele, wide, macro rings, a remote shutter and tripod I've had the most fun with it. The plastic screw on its kit lens broke already.
>Got a $280 concert flute without holes. I wish I had one with holes so I could do celtic ornamentations.
>Got a wacom like the one in your pic, wired, the cable broke and drawings always had perspective problems because motor skill without eye coordination and without a steady base is impossible to train reliably, wish I had a screen one

Go pro or go home. Get a screen one and sell it at 40% price if you don't like it. Don't buy chink brands, research all the issues like pen connectivity, software bugs etc.

You would probably like using a Wacom more than you expect. I suggest you get over your fear of desks.
Otherwise, buy an iPad and an Apple Pencil.

I'll try it I think. The more I look into it the more it looks like a good fit for me. I spend a lot of time at my desk anyway so who am I kidding

Lol good deal. I certainly think it's a better choice than buying an iPad, and it's definitely cheaper than a Cintiq or whatever similar thing the pros use nowadays.
