I feel so demoralized. I'm a Computer Science major and I like solving problems. The classes that involve coding I can effortlessly get over 100% of the grade. But literally anything else (Math or other knowledge check classes) I do not give a shit about. These other classes get in the way of my time to do actual creative projects because I'm a working student with a social life. As such college is starting feel like an actual burden on my coding career. I know for a fact i can make more progress hiring some random jeet to tutor me on how to build what I want with conventional code than whatever bullshit they make me do for each semester. Should I bother continuing college? Should I take a gap year after college to just focus on actual coding skills after getting all the dumb bullshit out the way? I hate that society values these useless degrees so much
Those are all horrible ideasYou should be getting a degree in something valuable that you can't really teach yourself like you can with coding, like actual engineering or medicine or law. I recommend switching if it's not too late.t. EE chad
>>33994063In an ideal world i would be studying electrical engineering but I got rejected from my CSU of choice and my only other options are colleges far away that will put me into debt slavery forever (maybe I shouldve just done that desu)
>>33994079I'm not sure I understand, the college you're at doesn't teach EE at all? Or you failed the GPA requirement for engineering at your school and you still aren't over it?I mean in that case maybe consider dropping out if you can't clear the GPA hurdle for something like engineering or premed. No offense but I don't see what degree you could get that would add substantial value to your life assuming you're not jewish enough to make a business degree useful. Maybe you could be a lineman or electrician or something? And keep coding as a hobby. Honestly quirky coding youtubers are probably making more money than the average compsci newgrad these days anyway.
>>33994045>These other classes get in the way of my time to do actual creative projectsyou need the learn the reality of modern colleges/universities in the USA. Much of them are just gatekeeping, cultist, sorority, secret society type of delusional folk that take their membership to the extremes and often until their death or passed on the next generations. The main purpose of modern colleges are to network for career and for social connections by wealthy families. These people have no need or desire for career advancement or employment as they have unlimited resources and wealth: so they use colleges to form business relations, connections and network for many different purposes. That is why they push college clubs, sororities and social events so heavily during this time.>I know for a fact i can make more progressanother reality check: you dont need to wait for your courses to do actual movement in the world and in your own life. Use college as a guideline and inspiration for ideas- not an end-all means for survival. You can do research on your own and actually teach yourself- often with better material, books, courses, tutors and hands-on technical expertise, with far more detail than your bullshitter professor/teacher can show you.>Should I bother continuing college? You should learn about what college is even really about- like I said. When I went to college, my classmates were children of multi-millionaires who would only appear in-person, in class occassionally- they would park their brand-new Lamborghini or McLaren in the parking lot. They would hire pros to take their tests/exams for them in-person with forged IDs. That's when I realized, wealth was separate from college or education/academia in general. Do it like >>33994063 said, you need a real STEM degree. Comp Sci is already over-saturated and you will get rekt by AI soon. Have you seen viral social media posts of Comp Sci job fairs? No one is hiring.
>>33994086My school has no engineering department (which should be a sign that it is dogshit but it is a public school). i actually have pretty high GPA its just that for whatever reason the only other choice of college close to me is too busy choosing zoombies that drop out their first year over me (or maybe its because I dont live in the actual city its based in)
>>33994045The field of computer programming is advancing so quickly due to AI that getting a 4 year degree is almost worthless. If you have programming ability you can probably get a job right now and start building an actual resume.Employers arent going to care about your compsci degree.
>>33994100>My school has no engineering departmentIt isn't ABET accredited? Wtf drop out immediately lmao it's a fucking clown college.>for whatever reason the only other choice of college close to me is too busy choosing zoombies that drop out their first year over me (or maybe its because I dont live in the actual city its based in)I cannot comprehend why a school in the state you live in wouldn't want to take your money. I'm not trying to accuse you of lying but I have a feeling there's something you're not telling me here. There's plenty of ABET accredited engineering programs that schools offer online, but they might not be in your state like you said so you'd pay out the wazoo. If moving to make an engineering degree doesn't feel worth it to you then just go be a tradie desu.
>>33994137It is accredited. It just has no engineering department. It's a public college in the ghetto. The other college is known for prioritizing students that live in their city (or idk). I've been waitlisted 3 times by that college
>>33994147Sheeeit. Well is moving there feasible?
>>33994147Besides that I cant even imagine what trade Id wanna do if I wanted to go that route. Maybe something related to sports or making coffee or something (but those arent actual trades)
>>33994157If I move there Id be on my own. Id probably have to share a room with retards that have bad credit just to survive (unless I dorm). Its not even that far desu they just dont want me for whatever reason. I could go out of state but I have no idea what the logistics of that would even look like... (look for a place to live, finding work, etc.)
>>33994162>Maybe something related to sports or making coffee or somethingWew. Ok, uproot everything in your life to make going to that other college happen by any means necessary and get into engineering because I think a jobsite will turn you into a pile of festering meat with poopflies on it
>>33994045> I hate that society values these useless degrees so muchYou haven't opened your mind. There are tons of people without college degrees but with a fuckton of CompTIA certifications or otherwise that make a lot of money or even have their own businesses. Unless you're trying to work at a Fortune 500 like Meta or Apple, fuck college. Get certifications. Run your own business. Make as much or even more than those fortune 500 bros while having more control over your life. College is basically useless unless you want to be a Doctor, Lawyer, or Engineer.
>>33994045When American universities were established, largely in the 18 and 19 Centuries. the philosophical basis on which they were built was that the "educated person" might be a specialist in something but should also know at least a little about everything, in order to be a contributing citizen (i.e. how can you vote intelligently on, say, a nuclear power plant if you know absolutely nothing about science?)It is a very recent (i.e. post 1970s) development for students to expect universities to be glorified trade schools, getting you a job and nothing more. Among the many problems with that is that it just does not work. Only about 25% of grads wind up working in the field of their studies.Meanwhile, that required government class just might make you a better informed citizen, that English class might introduce you to a writer you'll enjoy reading for a lifetime, and some other "get in the way" class might actually point your career and your life in a whole new direction
>>33994661>Meanwhile, that required government class just might make you a better informed citizen, that English class might introduce you to a writer you'll enjoy reading for a lifetime, and some other "get in the way" class might actually point your career and your life in a whole new directionOh spare us all of your litany you stupid boomer fucking faggot. These required classes you speak of have been outright marxist indoctrination sessions for the last 50 years. The only thing they teach is how horribly evil whitey is, how he and everything he ever built need to be destroyed yesterday, the sanctity of the hollycost, and the suprene quality of BBC. It's a fucking clownshow and they have the gall to charge these kids an extra $15,000 minimum on top of the ~$25,000 tuition for their meaningful core major classes that all too often are taught by incompetent ESL's. And that's if they're smart and went to their state school! You either haven't sat in a lecture hall in 40 years and aren't aware of the state of it, you are aware of the state of it and like it because you're a fucking kike, or you're trolling.
>>33994609>muh certsIt's not 2017 anymore big dog, the american IT sector at all scales belongs to india
>>33994045You need the degree so hr will even consider you. The meme of a lonely gamer not going to college and earning trillions of dollars from coding, died since covid ended.
>>33994678The inherent virtue of your position, the logic of your argument, the clarity of your presentation and the calm reasonableness of your debating method have completely overwhelmed me and I sincerely regret ever having held an opinion different from yours
>>33994063Is it worth getting a certification in plumbing?t. zoomer graduating from Architecture but lost interest in the field

>>33994684I'm speaking from experience. I got my IT job with just certifications.
