How do people make friends online? I'm a guy who likes fujo/yume/yuri/het things so it's a but easier in general to talk about ships and dynamics. My life has been usually getting into a fandom and finding people to talk to it about. I have a an upper beginner level of Japanese so I made a few nip friends before they do the autism deletion. A few of the fandoms through my life have been Naruto (mid 2000s) to kpop 2010-14, to online games/mmo 2014-16, gacha games (including genshin)til 2021. seasonal anime all throughout this.
I don't really have a problem getting going when I meet people in person, the issue is there is that it's slightly harder to find a low amount of people who don't drink or the gathering is small as too much people overstimulate me. Everyone very friendly too me at work. I feel I am decently good at socializing.

That said I generally feel more fulfilled in a fandom, as in taking theories, in games I was the organizer of discords and getting numbers and strategies. Translating jp to eng announcements, or doujin. Certain fandom like kny I contributed to art, and fic writing. I hosted draw a long sessions. I feel good contributing to something. The issue is that I haven't really been able to find a fandom like this after COVID and it's making me feel alone. My Japanese has deteriorated a bit because I haven't really been using it and it's difficult to make sentences now. I don't play any games because I don't have the time now that I'm older and have less time. (Nursing so long hours per week and a longer recovery time when off). My mindset has changed so I no longer like gacha and feel its very predatory.
My friends have married off and had kids so at this point they aren't my friends as they never message me anymore 1-4 times a year. I don't date (by choice) nor want children. Fandoms are just young and with today's climate it feels weird talking to people in their early 20/late teens even though I did very much the same at that age.

I've used all the websites over the years, here, reddit, Tumblr, Twitter, discord, Skype, line, irc, aol etc. I don't even know where people go now because you can barely find links to discords. A lot of people (eng) have moved from Twitter. Tumblr died with the porn ban. I saw everyone leave to bluesky yet most if the people I followed abandoned the sure to go back to Twitter.
On top of this all I don't like anything 'popular' I've been a bit obsessed with less popular mid 70-mid 80s anime and ships but of course those fandoms are long dead. I even feel like the boards I used to post on changed so much in the last 15 years I've been here that it's hard to get actual conversation. It's very rare now and only with select series. It just feels like everywhere is just on life support. Where do people go online to make friends now? It just feels like I've been drifting the last few years and becoming isolated, tired, and depressed. In person is fine but there's always a power level hiding but I just want to express myself fully like i usually do and have been doing for 30+ years. I feel like people usually have the opposite problem and can't get friends irl

You don't like having hobby friends? I value in person friends of course but it's hard to match the same level of let's say Mecha autism or something with a person who lives close to if if you aren't in a major city.
I just feel online spaces have changed dramatically it's hard to pick up a friend group

It depends on the type of fren you want, anon...
Personally, I'd recommend getting into vidya again, as this seems like the easiest way to just... join communities and make friends. WoW groups, gmod servers...
>don't play
Well, fuck. Scratch the point above, I suppose.
Are you okay with being around normies? Foids? Autists?
>they aren't my friends
I think you want a friendgroup, not a friend
>feels weird talking to people in their early 20/late teens
It's only weird if you make it weird. Just give people chances. Less boundaries means more frens. I think younger people mostly dominate the 'weird' communities nowadays.

I only don't play gacha now. I'm open to other games but nothing really piqued my interest recently. Baldurs gate did but the varying characterizations made it hard to interact with people. I did try out a few IRL end games from it. They were short though.

I don't really care who the people are or have if I'm honest. I just care if they're respectful. I've been friends with fujos, gay men, yume, autistics, ADHD special focus and so on.

>friend group
Not really. It would be great to have a group of people all together who like the same things but at the same time I don't need that if I can befriend individuals. Unless you mean something different here.

I want to give people a chance but I've also seen way too people who have gotten doxxed and bullied online as well. I don't mind people that age but I also feel like I have to wear kid gloves with them when I'm more than 15 years older. Like a teacher/professional rather than a true friend. Hopefully that makes sense.

oh, fair enough then. i think you should try the videogame thing. i made a small group of frens to queue with in league of legends occasionally, it's not so bad
also, why not ask irl frens to do stuff with you online?
>doxxed and bullied online
hehe yeah, this is why fandoms and larger communities suck
>Like a teacher/professional rather than a true friend
awh well, there's not much to be done
if you feel that way, you feel that way anon desu
i am pretty tired, but i'm gonna try think some moar ways for you to find frens. what about D&D stuff? politics groups?

Making online friends can be nice that you share interests with.

> fandoms
Yeah fuck no. Any community whose focus is a Fandom, rather than it being a supplement, will be full of the most insufferable faggots on the internet. It's a lost cause.

So good example of a community is let's say, a private game server for a dead game. Common activity, something to enjoy. They may talk about the IP elsewhere.

A bad example of a community is it's some existence being a "fan community of X". There's no basis other than people shot flinging and defending their gay interpretuojs with no author involvement.

It's easier to make friends when you want to talk about (mostly) things like fujo ships and male characters in fandom tbdesu.

What do you like anon?

2010 gaypop, stinky fujo things, doujin style, kinda niche stuff, late 00's early 2010's I miss

Can you type 10000 word posts on a whim for your obsessions even knowing the other person might not care but you feel hype just knowing they read it?
Because if you drop long messages on what you care about I'll love it.

Yeah I can do that easy, I have plenty of takes to spew infinitely

Fuck it, discord gg/ufgeneBrnW
feel free to autism post. I don't mind anything if I'm honest as long as a conversation can happen. I linked to there because I can revoke the link later but it's just an old dead priv
