How do I get a cushy 9 to 5 job in 2026? I just want a basic white collar job that pays enough money for my bills and maybe my wants. I'm not asking to paint the Mona Lisa, I'm a pretty basic person so, what careers can accomplish this?
>>33996062Depends on what you define as cushy.
>>33996062I won't read yet another request for what career to pursue that tells us almost nothing about the OP's likes, dislikes, strengths and weaknesses.
>>33996062It depends on what skills you have.
>>33996062I'll try to be a little nicer, but if you like brevity, I agree with >>33996206Imagine you and I go to the restaurant. I ask you to tell me what I should eat. I want something I'll like, but I don't want something I'll hate. Tell me what I should eat?Well, I didn't really tell you anything, did I? You don't know what restaurant we're at, and I didn't tell you what I like it hate. You can't really give me a suggestion. That's how I feel right now. When you say you want something cushy, what does that mean? What skills do you have? What jobs can you tolerate? Also, please don't get your hopes up that there are jobs where you don't work and get paid a lot. People on Reddit are liars. There are very, very few jobs where you don't do anything and get paid a lot. These people discount their level of competence.
Okay.Likes and interests: Computers, videogames, digital animation, video editingSkills: I know some things about computers, but I'm not a hackerman or anything. Sorry for not fleshing it out, I was busy and I had to post something real quick. >>33996079>>33996206>>33996251>>33996334
>>33996377But I would really like a white collar job where I sit in a office and type stuff all day. I'm also good with my hands and wouldn't mind building or tampering with machinery
>>33996377>>33996381How old are you and what jobs have you had so far?
>>3399654222, 23 next year Just bullshit jobs like fast food, retail and security. Did a electrician program for about 6 months, it went nowhere though
>>33996381Do you have a degree? A lot of white collar jobs require a bachelors. Some white collar jobs, will take any degree, but not having a degree will be tough.
>>33996577No degree but I'm willing to work for one
>>33996625You might want to try looking for a government job if you want to work in an office. Otherwise, with no degree, your best bet is in some type of sales marketing position, or HR/recruitment. If you know any rural locations, companies are a lot more flexible in their job hiring since and are more willing to offer training for entry level jobs. You might get lucky searching for an office job in the middle of nowhere. Another thing to look for is WFH (Work From Home) jobs. Its not a office but far more cushy. Its really hard to fine one that pays well unless your like a programmer/cybersecurity. Most non-degree WFH jobs are like dataentry, or call service, type of stuff.
>>33996692Government jobs huh? Sounds good enough for me. Thanks.
>>33996563Fast food and retail aren't bullshit. The customer service training is a very valuable skill to pick up and transition into another role, such as a receptionist or client services person. If you go this route, depending on where you work they might pay you to take classes to skill up. Have you looked into being a front desk person anywhere?
>>33996062>How do I get a cushy 9 to 5 job in 2026That was a ZIRP.
>>33996381>I would really like a white collar job where I sit in a office and type stuff all dayYou might think you do, but you really do not want to do that day in day out lol
>>33996377What qualifications do you have?
>>33996563Enjoy fast food and retail while you can. Retail's as cushy as jobs get. That's why it pays the least of anything. Those jobs are great because they have you frequently interacting with customers, keeping your social skills and professionalism sharp. Something that's very easy to atrophe in 2025, especially for men.You can also meet women on those jobs, and will likely be the last point in your life that you can meet women on the job.
>>33997073Yeah, the better paying 9-5 jobs are always soul crushing, and usually involves overtime. Honestly, if you are not married with kids, then taking a lower paying job isn't the end of the world. At least you still have some free time.
>>33996741>Have you looked into being a front desk person anywhere? Not recently, no. I remember applying for a couple of jobs when I was 18 and of course no response. >>33996890The only thing I have is a electrician cert>>33997073>>33997159I understand that, but I still want to up my income and afford a place to stay, a nicer car, better clothes, ect. I can't do that unless I work two jobs (which is what I'm doing now)
>>33997409What salary are you aiming for?
>>33997451Something around 50-60k starting salary is decent enough for me, maybe 80-100k after putting 20something years in.
>>33996062look into medical (not doctor, not nurse) stuff. not sure i'd call it cushy but it can very absolutely tolerable when patient interactions are kept limited
>>33997652I second this. My cousin is a radiologist technician, he just takes X-rays of patients, so pretty simple patient interactions, gets good pay, normal hours, and doesn't take any work home with him. The only downside for OP, is that most of these will require you to complete a program a school.
