I'm considering abandoning programming to go back to university for nursing at age 31. I live in Ontario, Canada, and there's a provincial program that would pay most of my tuition. Tell me if I'm a fucking idiot.
Pic unrelated but an excellent book you should read.

I'd only do it if all the credits from your current bachelors (assuming you have one) contribute toward your progress in premed
Western demographics won't be boomer-heavy forever, they will in fact all die one day relatively soon-ish. Do you really think you'll get more from the last 15-20 years of a nursing bullrun than you would from more years of programming?
Also consider that the ruthless deadly niggers running hospitals will run their nursing crews to as few staff as physically possible regardless of how busy they get due to the ever-weakening economy. Not to say that software dev would fare better, but you already have experience in the field

I've noticed an uptick in the compsci to nurse swap-around, what's the deal with these 2 fields? Ig nursing seems like actually useful to society and fairly accessible route so compsci bullshit jobs all gone would make the switch, but nursing is prolly more gruelling so they'd wanna switch to a less tiring role

i'd suggest something medical other then nursing unless your the really driven type who loves mandatory overtime.

if money is your first and only concern then yeah nursing, see if there are any special nurse training thing there was (is?) in my city. The job sounded like hell to me but it was like triple the base payrate I get in another hospital job.

None of my past credits would, I have a compsci degree. And I may get more satisfaction given I fucking hate programming like I presently do.

Personally it's the fact my job is indeed bullshit, and I want to do something to contribute. Tiring is no issue.

Why not get an EE master's and glom onto something in defense? You can contribute to blowing up brown people

I want to do something with my life that feels like contributing to the betterment of people and not idling away hours because my tech lead deems a webpage styled incorrectly even though he can't articulate why that is. Even working with my last tech lead, who I preferred, I couldn't muster any enthusiasm about the work itself even when the environment was close to ideal.

What was the special nurse training thing? I've never heard of anything like that.

Why not better humanity in your free time? Jobs that make the world better generally pay shit, and those jobs that dont pay shit are extremely competitive and have poor job security and work conditions or some other gotcha like with nursing. Why not do charity work or give lectures at your local community college instead? Or think of some programming niche you actually find interesting and make educational video content about it?

it was something to do with being an assistant/"secretary" to a surgeon handling all/alot the pre/post surgical administrative shit.
I think it was one of those jobs other doctors use to do. but staffing is so low they had offered a special training thing for nurses of some higher rank/variability where they could train to do for a few months while getting paid as if they were just working it already.

I never kept track of it so i have no idea if it was just here or if other places had similar issues/offer. why i said to look into it for your area.

>it was something to do with being an assistant/"secretary" to a surgeon
you also had to do nurse shit during the surgery just to be clear.

You're not an idiot.

via Google:

It is common for people to change careers in midlife, with research indicating a significant number are making or considering the switch.
A 2024 YouGov study found that 20% of Britons over 40 have already switched careers in the past five years, while a further 23% are considering a change.

I do charity work, and frankly I don't like or am skilled enough in programming to lecture and teach it. Well, I probably am, but I don't like it enough to.

>>34007586
I'm sure OP already googled it bud.
>>
OP at least do something interesting like ER.
>>
>>34006542
Dumb fuck. You don't deserve to be a nurse. You've squandered your time, and no one will take you now. Useless fuck.

Strive for your dreams, make it happen. Work hard and stay dedicated.
