Recently my father introduced me to car breaker yard raffles. The gist is that a breaker yard will sometimes get hold of an old car that is still in decent condition and instead of scrapping it they instead raffle it off. This particular raffle group he showed me has been opperating for 10 years now and appear to be very legit. They post about the winners every time and every active raffle has a ticket list of everyone who is participating. They offer free next day delivery too. So all in all I am not too concerned about whether it is a racket or not, but what I am concerned about is odds and the point of buying multipe tickets.

Each raffle has a ticket price as low as $4.50 to as high as $10 depending on the car in the raffle and you can buy any amount of tickets. On average the piblic ticket lists have just over 2000 participants for cars but if you want an old bike you typically see below 400 with the bike tickets being priced far lower at around $3 to $6. Now obviously the odds of 1 in 2000 is very low, but the price of entry is pretty cheap for what it is and some of the cars are very good. It seems like fun even if every time it's a moonshot, but how actually worth it is it to buy multiple tickets? I know rudimentry 5 tickets is technically 5 times the probability of 1, but is the practical likelihood worth paying something like $50 instead of $10? Or is the moonshot that significant that you're just as likely to get it with 1 ticket as opposed to 5? Ontop of that would it be better to place those 5 tickets on 5 different cars instead of the one?

If you know how to repair cars, it is worth it

Find one that has auctions rather than raffles. You may pay more but you won't pay at all if you don't get it
