Freelance programmer with 10 years experience here. Being a contractor, I was always payed a bit more and did what I loved best: the technical, not the domain stuff. Being a bit socially weird I also enjoyed changing companies from time to time as I don't get along with people over a long period of time. In the current economy this is simply not possible anymore and I don't know what to do when I need to look for a new project in a month. Should I go down with my hourly rate to work at Eastern Europe levels or should I spend some months to improve certain skills and get certifications? Of course I could try to get a more secure permanent job, but all the good ones are gone now. I would be buying security but not really contribute to my savings anymore. I have 2 kids and around 500k in savings (real estate included), so I would need at least 500k more to "make it". As the salaries only go down, I don't see it being possible to "rush" that goal by simply working more, especially in a low payed permanent job (and with my bad social skills I am certainly not the type of person to influence people and make a career in a company).
>>34032211Can’t you do all or any combination of those things? If your assets you are counting include your own home, take the equity money out and put it in index funds to pay back the loan. Profit. I do not know much about your line of work. Srry
>>34032211ozempic and microlifts are doing anything for ugly peoplethat's a retarded journalist talking to an LLM to devise getting more engagementAnd here you are posting that. It works. Hooray
>>34034622that journalist is correct that lookism is a mindvirus devouring first world societies at an alarming rate compared to even 10-15 years ago. Nobody even pretends to think looks don't matter anymore, or attaches any shame to being openly derisive of ugly people and hating them. That's a massive change from the kayfabe polite society used to have about looks. I hate journalists as much as the next person, but if you think Ozempic and the popularisation of cosmetic surgeries en masse won't have a pressurising effect on people who used to be average looking simply by not being obese or bald, you're dumb.
