As a guy who is the example of the trickle down theory from being in a middle class situation, not true. Advice helps, but in moderation. I think given enough advice my friend bought a treadmill in his home and is using it everyday despite being overweight, and he is trying to eat healthy too. My therapist gives me advice too. I don't see the issue. Now actively looking for advice, yes that's an issue. But when you make a mistake and someone gives you advice from that mistake, that is where you have an open-mind. That is where you are being yourself, that willingness to learn when you make mistakes. It's not about assuming you are invincible in your knowledge or assuming things are impossible or all possible, but rather that willingness to learn and try again from your brain. That is a stronger version of being yourself in my opinion. But actively buying shit and looking for shit, yeah that's a problem.
