It's better if it's for grown-ups and stupid, gym-obsessed chads and they're a few kilos heavier than you.
>>34041280BJJ, Muay Thai, Boxing. Just MMA really.
>>34041302The problem I see with grappling martial arts is that they don't train you to take hard hits from someone who bench presses like they do, and if you're on the ground, their friends will jump in. Do you have an advantage in a fight when you're standing?Even so, I see more fighting experience in them and an advantage in strength.I need something to balance that.
>>34041320>The problem I see with grappling martial arts is that they don't train you to take hard hits from someone who bench presses like they do, and if you're on the ground, their friends will jump in. Do you have an advantage in a fight when you're standing?Grappling is something you do standing as well. BJJ classes teach some wrestling and judo usually.Anyway, you would want to combine striking and grappling ideally.>Even so, I see more fighting experience in them and an advantage in strength.I need something to balance that. That's what weapons are for. Even for trained martial artists, overcoming a strength discrepancy is hard. You have to have like 4+ years of training to easily beat stronger opponents.
>>34041320Judo has a heavy focus on throwing people. While you can follow them to the ground the instructor’s explicitly say not to in a street fight because of the reason you outlined. I would recommend a striking martial art, but Judo or wrestling would be the best if you were looking to get into grappling.
>>34041280As a non-conventional suggestion, you might want to look into Hapkido. There's a lot of emphasis on being very close to your opponent and causing as much pain as possible.
>>34041320taking mma is just simply the best choice for "self defense" in a street fight. Yes you don't want to grapple in a street fight and guess who's better at avoiding it / getting on top and away? yes that's a person trained in it. Hell a wrestling slam on concrete will end a fight / potentially someone's life. MMA is also popular and widespread enough that you are much less likely to find a mcdojo teaching uselses bullshit that doesn't work.
>>34041280There is no singular best martial arts for self defense.>>34041302>BJJ, Muay Thai, Boxing. Just MMA really. These are the usual suspects though MMA isn't a martial art but rather a mixed bag of other martial arts. The problem is that these became so popular over the last 15 years with the UFC that countless McDojos have taken over. You'd be better off with a "lesser" martial art like Judo, Sambo, some sort of Karate - so long as the teacher is legit vs being trained in make-believe MMA by someone who claimed to have fought 700 times in underground brazilian death matches and trained by Quigley Gracey one of the lesser known Gracie cousins.
>>34041392>MMA is also popular and widespread enough that you are much less likely to find a mcdojo teaching uselses bullshit that doesn't work.Just the opposite, McDojos always form around what's popular like a leech or mold or parasite. Decades ago it was Japanese traditional martial arts, Chinese kung fu was hot for a minute as well. These days it's everyone opening black belt factories at strip malls under the guise of being MMA and BJJ experts.>in b4 "all traditional martial arts are McDojos"
>>34041469If the gym doesn't have people that compete in MMA don't go to it. I can't imagine it's hard to tell which gyms are legit vs garbage considering how many ufc fighters are out there opening up their own gyms / ufc affiliated people.
>>34041280If I had to pick, instead of agreeing with all above, Bushidokan Karate is good for streetlights. Good old judo is pretty easy to understand and handy enough for most situations, if you throw in a couple of bitchslaps.
>>34041280I won't read yet another /fit escapee bait thread that will inevitably attract blow-hard shills for this or that course, trainer or school.
>>34041886OOoh! The great martial arts deep state gorilla market trafficking cabal!
>>34041280Gun-fu.
>>34041280license to open carry firearms.if you absolutely must learn an empty handed fighting style just learn boxing and judo because they are the most simplest, and know that you're gonna put in huge amounts of time, effort and commitment to reach a point where you can reliably defend yourself against getting randomly jumped on da streets, cus that shit requires drilling law enforcement officer levels of situational awareness into your mind, being quick on your feet and understanding that the single best speech to self defense is being so intimidating that your opponent backs down before the fight even begins
>>34042146>law enforcement officer levels of situational awareness into your mindlmao you mean freaking out at a breeze and mag dumping every single thing you see?
>>34041280Indian ESL thread>hey don't train you to take hard hits from someone who bench presses like they doSAAAR SAAAARRRRRAnyway bench press ORM numbers don't matter a flying fuck for how well you can fight. There are world's strongest man winners like Mariusz Pudzianowski and Eddie Hall that went into fighting and have mediocre records. Punching power comes from how fast you can transmit torque generated by your legs through your core and upper body. Iron Mike didn't do much traditional weigh training, instead he did hundreds and hundreds of dips and pullups and squats and other challenging bodyweight exercises that gave him the ability to channel lots of force into the motion of his armsYou'd know this if you weren't STINKY DUMB BROWN AND ESL
>>34041377Any kind of "oh you redirect your opponent's force" martial art is bullshit. Hapkido, Aikido, literally none of that works IRL. Muh Tokyo Police elite Aikido black belts get fucking stomped by emaciated African immigrants. >>34041455>Judo, Sambo, some sort of KarateKarate is ALL bullshit. Judo is useless in a street fight. Sambo is just wrestlingThere is literally nothing more effective that just learning how to throw a good punch (boxing) and how to handle fighting on the ground (MMA BJJ where striking is allowed and any sort of serious wrestling, not sumo or stinky indian oil wrestling or whatever)
>>34042619>Karate is ALL bullshit. Judo is useless in a street fight. Sambo is just wrestlingKarate has some good schools but you still want it to train it like MMA and not their like no head strikes style. Judo is pretty applicable in winter times at least, jackets are similar to gis but yeah I wouldn't spend my time fucking around with judo instead of wrestling for defense. COuld also consider turkish oil wrestling.
>>34042619Boxers tape their hands because they don’t punch correctly.
>>34041280I know it's jewish but krav maga
>>34042619This. My friend learned a lot of these techniques but they were useless when they got into a street fight.
>>34041280MMA which is a marriage of BJJ, MT and Boxing.Everything else karate, to judo to even wreslting is only for controlled situations and not a guy being a dick in an alley with a knife
>>34041280Any martial arts can be very effective if you train correctly and have the right mindset. The key is to find a great teacher rather than the mythical "greatest style". If you walk into a martial arts school and its got 7 year old black belts, you just turn around and walk out. Same thing if the school's students are sloppy, fat, or lack intensity and focus. Also walk out if there is greater than or equal to 20% women in the classes, or if there are female instructors (there are a few exception, but very few). That being said, understand that fights can happen standing, on the ground, or with weapons. Given the variability, learning to fight is never over. You should learn a bit of each.Last thing. Notwithstanding that there is no "greatest style", avoid schools that teach sports versions of martial arts. Tae Kwon Do is a good example of this.
>>34041280RunningThe best fight is the one you avoid
>>34041886Oh look... it the "I won't read yet another..." guy.
>>34044243running is not a martial art. but you already knew that.
>>34043376Wonder if this is bullshit like everything else. All I see is them shooting toddlers.
>>34043349They tape their hands because they’re throwing punches so hard it can cause damage to the hand and wrist bones over time if not outright break them. The reason why boxers wear gloves isn’t to protect each other it’s to protect their hands from breaking while they mash facesI don’t know where you heard that retardation from before
>>34044528It's for when they run out of ammo
>>34042619>>34042728All judo throws that require you you grab the sleave and collar of the gi can be preformed by grabbing the wrist and neck of a shirtless opponent. The fucking Mongolians use judo on ponies to corral and break them. Horses don't wear shirts.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TiQm5Fh5NjEhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhu1mfy2vJ4
>>34041280Muay Thai and Kickboxing.
>>34044797yes, theoretically, but the collar and gi are ten times easier to hold than someone's wrist / hooking their neck. throwing a pony is not judo
>>34044850Skill issue. Throwing a pony using a judo technique is judo.
