>be me
>mid 30s f dev, 12+ years exp
>Java/Spring backend + Node/React/Astro frontend
>always deliver, cool projects, zero drama

>new job in Italy
>during interviews: "hybrid flexible, we understand neurodivergence :)"
>start working, first weeks they want everyone in office "just to bond"
>suddenly mandate full 5 days RTO forever
>explain autism, sensory overload, fixed routines, commute destroys me
>boss: "gotta be a team player"
>meanwhile colleagues literally crying in lunch breaks because everyone feels trapped
>boss brags he's a good person because he votes left (classic Italian commie with a Rolex)

>force myself in anyway because 30k€/year for 12+ years senior exp
>that's not a salary anons, that's pocket money
>company keeps saying "we're a family" (red flag achieved)

>daily meltdowns, snapping at family at home (feel like absolute garbage about it)
>finally beg for part-time, 3 days office max
>they admit my work is top-tier and valuable
>"ok sure" for 2 months
>then a week before Christmas: "actually if we keep your arrangement everyone else will want it too"
>get fired on the spot

3rd or 4th time this exact cycle. Skill doesn't matter, "culture fit" always wins.

Italian market is hell right now: mass RTO, famine salaries, ageism + sexism bonus for women.

How do I break this loop anons?
>only chase 100% posted remote jobs and interrogate them in interviews?
>stop disclosing autism and mask harder until total burnout?
>try freelancing/contracting? But how the fuck do I find clients when nobody trusts devs working from Italy?
>any autistic (or just burnt out) devs here who actually found something stable long-term?
>move abroad? (Can't. no savings, family ties... a dream of going to live together with my fiancée)

Tired of this shit bros.

I dont mean to be rude but are you sure you arent using autism as a cop out to avoid the discomfort of working in person? Working from home is definitely a lot comfier but offices arent that bad if you have a short commute, it just takes a bit getting used to. I used to use anxiety as an excuse to not do shit but really that feeling just means i had to confront my fear of it.

1h commute each way in full traffic, plus office where everyone screams (people from the marketing call center were in the same open space) and every 5 minutes someone says "Hey <name> can do you this?"

how absolutely weak does one have to be? lol you've died in the 19th century

There should be plenty of jobs available in Europe, assuming you're an EU citizen. And that pay better than 30k a year.
>>

Ayyy I work for an American logistics company that's hiring fully remote engineers right now. We have a couple Java/Spring backend services and an Angular frontend. Absolutely no guarantee that they'd want to hire internationally, and you'd have to be available during American Eastern time from 8 to 5, but if you're interested, you can hit me up at the email above. I'll keep it live for the next hour or so. Salaries are around $100k, for a senior probably closer to $120k.

Think like a boss for a moment. They do not give a damn for your comfort, your limitations, your burnout or anything else except one thing - Will you make money for the company with the least possible bother to them?

HAHAHAHAHA SHE TOOK "WE UNDERSTAND NEURODIVERGENCE" LITERALLY AND SERIOUSLY AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAH EVERYONE POINT AND LAUGH AT OP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ciao sorella I was in a similar spot as you (10 yoe), then I started looking for remote jobs in northern europe. I landed a comfy backend job in the netherlands (no contractor, through EOR company), I just have to power through the yearly company summit and xmas dinner, the rest is home time.
You sound like you don't have problems with english, so I suggest you look outside of italy as well.

I don't think you appreciate how poor Europeans are. 30k is equivalent of 120K USD in low cost of living area.

Stop hiding behind fake illnesses and act fucking normal. Everyone can act.

I do contract programming from home. Everything is installed via ssh. About once a month I have to disguise myself as a normal human and visit a client.

Nope. You will never be a woman.

Only nordics and germanics can get away with autism as it is their culture. Imagine being a shut in autist in Brazil or Spain. Being like this in Italy is also mein leben difficulty
>>
>>34060438
120k USD for a dev with 12 years experience is peanuts
>>
>>34060438
Lol. You are the dumbest American to post on this thread. If that were true you could travel around Europe and live like a king with your meager neetbux.
>>
>>34060438
That’s plenty for an American.
Ain’t it?
>>
>>34060438
Highly doubt it, but in italy the sweet spot with the tax brackets is 35K which is not that hard to get, and translates to ~1900/mo after taxes
A family of 2 getting 35K each can live more than comfortably. A single autist making 35K is gonna starve though unless they luck out with mortgage/rent

Yes, we really. Between income tax, sales tax, VAT, property tax and fees, about 50% of my salary ends up back in the hands of the state. And I'm not even rich, I make as much as a dumbass junior in the US.
There's a reason I'm leaving this hellhole.
