Is my subconscious mind the real me that holds all the real thoughts? I'm scared that it is, and everything I think I believe in is a lie. Like I often seem to think randomly stuff like "evolution is a lie", when I wouldn't even think about that consciously. Or when I try writing sentences like "Manatees are related to elephants" I end instead writing "Manatees are seals". I'm asking this because I've noticef occasionally thinking about politics or religion and suddenly notice my subconscious saying the opposite of what I believe in. Even when I try repeating it, or suddenly testing it, I might think of the opposite. Are these Freudian slips and it now means I'm a communist, because I ended up thinking stuff like "Communism is right" when I was trying to think "Communism is wrong". Is this my subconscious telling me what I actually believe in?
>>34066520You are not your thoughtsThoughts that sort of come out of nowhere like that, they're from your subconscious/unconscious mind, but they're not you You are the observer. You can conjure thoughts consciously and you can observe thoughts that are conjured unconsciously
>>34066533Also, read some Jung and meditate and talk to ChatGPT to learn more about your psyche if it's bothering you so much
>>34066520>Is my subconscious mind the real me that holds all the real thoughts? No, the subconscious is more like a series of archetypes, things you have encountered somewhere and recorded subconsciously. Your persona is just a mishmash of different archetypes. You project a mishmash of different archetypes onto other people. You associate political and religious positions with archetypes. Everything is mapped onto what are essentially memes.
>>34066533I see, so I shouldn't be alarmed about my political opinions changing, when I accidentally think stuff like "Communism is right", for arguments sake, when I actually don't believe in that, and was actually thinking about arguments against it and trying to say "Communism is wrong"?
>>34066707You're trying too hard to control your thoughts. If you're always thinking "don't think about pizza" then you'll imagine big delicious steamy pizzas slathered in sauce and cheese and toppings all day.
>>34066709That actually makes perfect sense, thanks. So a sudden thought like that, or a misthought in my line of thinking isn't a sign of what I actually believe in? Like, if I accidentally think that manatees are seals, I don't actually believe in it, but is more just a "slip of the tongue"? That's pretty reassuring to hear.
>>34066715It's just a mental tic caused by anxiety most likely, nothing to worry about, just try to relax if you get so worked up
>>34066755Thanks. I suppose I just got spooked by it.
>>34066520Your subconscious mind is trying to tell you something.
