Two weeks ago I watched the first ep of Dexter and didn't think much it, today while scrolling YouTube I came across a video of a guy cutting up and cleaning a fish real good, it was impressive and for a moment I thought of it as a art before I remembered what happened in Dexter (something about a killer experimenting on bodies to find the perfect way to butcher his victims). I felt a visceral disgust and started drawing parallels. Having different methods dedicated to killing an animal, cooking it, preping it or just spicing seems so unhinged to me right now, even the 'kill it in the most humane way and use every piece of it' agreement seems psychopathic to me
But meat is so tasty.I can’t defend factory farming, though.
>>34069310 my guilt tells me we should be eating food cubes for sustenance and forsake taste
>>34069298First time I handled a full raw turkey I had the visceral realization that it looked kinda like my own skin and I had to put it back in the fridge to try and process that
>>34069298You're the psychopath in the equation. You should instinctually AND logically place a much higher value on human life than the life of any other animal including your beloved poochie or whatever.Your sheltered, pampered life fomented the conditions for this madness but you are still choosing to indulge in it.>>34069310Humans are more important than all other animals.I say this both subjectively because I am one and objectively because other animals barely do anything beyond passively exist day to day and sometimes build a cool house.Humans also rule over animals by right of natural conquest and fitness.
>>34069298>Am I becoming Vegan? Not unless you reject milk and eggs as well. Otherwise you're just in danger of becoming vegetarian.>cows produce milk after farmers impregnate them>female calves are taken away from their mothers to become dairy cows>male calves are taken away from their mothers and killed immediatelyIf this doesn't bother you then you're not in danger of becoming vegan.>egg-laying chickens are supplied to farms from breeders>breeders impregnate their chickens and sell the female chicks to farms>the male chicks are killed immediately after hatchingIf this doesn't bother you then you're not in danger of becoming vegan.
>>34069298I've had similar thoughts when I was watching a vampire movie and paused it to cook myself dinner. My advice: Embrace it. Humans are cool like vampires, we are at the top of the food chain. We are a part of nature like the mighty lion. The lion does not apologize for eating the gazelle.
>>34069384>>34069406>be proud and celebrate! we humans conquered the world because of our superior cognitive skills!>oh, your superior cognitive skills are causing you to experience empathy (which animals like lions don't experience)?>you should celebrate your humanity by pretending you don't experience empathy (pretending you have inferior cognitive skills)I will never understand this mindset.
>>34069298If you don't want to eat meat, don't eat meat. There's no problem here.
>>34069440Your inability to identify and cope with your own maladaptive empathy is what is keeping you from understanding it.You have a blinkered, narcissistic view of empathy where it's a purely affective function, just like sociopaths are only able to develop it as a purely cognitive function, when in fact the well-considered and actively maintained balance between the two is what creates the adult human mindset.Basically, you need to grow up.
industrial animal agriculture might be the single most evil invention cooked up by us
>>34069384>Humans are more important than all other animals.>Humans also rule over animals by right of natural conquest and fitness.I agree, but I'd go a step further and say that we humans are stewards of the planet Earth by divine right, and I think that as such, we could stand to treat our livestock more humanely than we do in factory farms.
>>34069440>>34069406Don't lump me in with the "humans are more important" guy. My mindset is more like, "It's the circle of life, accept reality." plus "Embrace your shadow".It's arrogant to position yourself in opposition to billions of years of nature, and especially to assume empathy is the ultimate priority. You've been brainwashed by liberal leftists. >>34069456"Maladaptive empathy", I like that, I'll remember that term. But I basically agree but less asshole-ish.
>>34069552We are already disconnected from nature. Nature would be if we ate animals we hunted. Nature has nothing to do with us driving to the grocery store and buying commoditized meat products that have nothing to do with the hunt. You cannot reject rejecting nature when you have already rejected nature."Accept reality" is defeatist as well. Things we dislike exist in this world, and eliminating them from my own life will not eliminate them from the entire world, therefore it's pointless to eliminate them from my own life? I'll pass on that.
>>34069298This is the rational response imo. But we're encouraged to suppress it because we live in a fucked up culture that rationalizes immoral stuff by appealing to what's natural. You know how politically we're currently obsessed with minority and LGBTQ people, because for a long time people would appeal to what's 'natural' to treat them poorly? Well in 50 years the overton window will probably shift to the meat consumption issue finally. You're currently contemplating the progressive side of a future political sticking point. The above claim might seem wild, but we're essentially going through the 6th mass extinction currently. Global wild animal populations have declined approx 70% in the past 50 years, which is the precursor for a mass extinction event. A lot of that death is hugely driven by meat consumption. This HAS to become a big political issue at some point, simply because if people don't change their consumption habits, humanity will cause one of the most devastatingly catastrophic losses of life and speciation the planet has ever seen. If things don't change it could be as bad as the great dying, which is the worst extinction event we know of.
>>34069298If you think that's bad you should watch slaughter house footage.Being vegan is retarded also, like you get thrown out of the club for eating honey or not all but certain kinds of white bread which means you're no longer vegan you may as well be eating foie gras like some frenchman or live octopus like some korean streamer lady.Going vegetarian is simpler and more rational.
