My wife and I are mid 30's and married. We both have good careers. Made $225,000 this year together and next year will be at $250,000. We will probably be at $300,000 by the time we are 40. We have $475,000 invested for retirement in index funds and will add $100,000 next year if we maintain our current lifestyle. We're unable to have children and we live well below our means. Have a modest condo and don't eat out much or buy expensive clothes. We also have modest cars, but I'm feeling bored of just living my life to make line go up in our accounts. I'm starting to feel like what am I doing all this saving for when tomorrow isn't guaranteed? Known a couple people that have died in the last few years and it makes me fear having regret for not doing things while I still have the time. It was a boyhood dream of mine to drive a nice car and I'm not really interested in driving a nice one when I'm old. Would I be retarded if I got a 2 or 3 year old CPO BMW M340i next year? I would put a good down payment on it and finance the rest for 3 years. I'm not doing it as a status thing to try and look cool for others because I know no one cares. I just love the car and want to drive around in it with my wife. She's on board with it. Go on vacations with it and stuff. It would be my only big splurge.
you should write bmw on a piece of paper, fold it up really tight and then shove it up your ass
>>34069638nah i'm good
Here's a tip for larping. If you made that much money you are no longer in the tier of people who do downpayments and finances on vehicles or do dealership anything dumbass.>unable to have childrenYou will never have anyone or anything to fill your void
>>34069627I say this as somebody with a healthy amount of respect for BMW, absolutely don't get a BMW without the B58 (which thankfully the 340i has) but stay cautious even if you do get one.If you live in America I believe a German car should really only be leased, the quality of the technicians that we have over here as well as parts delays and the ever-changing supply chain make them a very bad bet. Combine that with the constant enshitification of German car parts being replaced with plastic instead of metal to guarantee that you will consistently have issues with the vehicle and it's very very difficult to recommend owning one regardless of how good that straight 6 sounds.I would personally suggest looking into a Japanese luxury brand likeexus or Acura. They typically share a lot of parts with Toyota/Honda vehicles if not sharing the same bones all together, which makes them cheaper and easier to get service on provided you do a little shopping around. They tend to be very reliable especially by today's standards, and if you're looking for spirited driving they both have fantastic options. My big recommendation is to look into an Acura TLX Type S. It also has the benefit of a significantly cheaper starting point which means that you can option it out just the way you like it and it'll feel more unique to you, or enable you to buy new instead of used.
>>34069696With regards to financing, why would I pay cash and withdraw money from retirement accounts earning 10% per year sheltered from tax when I can finance a car for a lower interest rate than that and pay it down quickly if I want to?I have better things to do than pretend to be making more money than I do online. Some people make more money than you. That's life. You're probably smart enough to earn more. Quit wasting your energy being mad about people doing better than you.
>>34069705Yeah I figured if it has a B58 it's mostly fine and I won't have much trouble. I didn't know about the technician issue and parts delays though. That makes me think twice. I'm kind of picky with the way a car looks and the Acuras just don't do it for me.I like the Lexus IS350 F-Sport but not nearly as much as the M340i. Mercedes/Audi is off the table due to reliability. I'm autistically fixated on the M340i and feel like no other car will scratch the itch and I'll end up with buyer's remose.
>>34069740Lol I appreciate that you tried to double down but you actually made yourself look even dumber. I implore you to do more research next time or at least don't reply to people who see right through your flimsy creative writing exercise
>>34069627If you can't have children then to be honest, its all pretty pointless and you have basically failed in the soul reason for your existence. Why the fuck can't you have children? Get a surrogate or something if you need to. Who gives a shit about a car? All pointless man-man materialistic shit.I would just minimalism-max and stop working and live the rest of your life as a monk in a cabin or something. Why do you even bother going to work to buy all this pointless materialistic shit? Also, on the car question, you are better off just hiring the car for a week every now and then. It is known that as soon as you buy a car, the joy you got from it goes back to baseline after a week or two. You may as well do the cheaper option and rent a nice car every now and then instead.
>>34069627How much do you save/invest in a year? In theory and not counting inflation, you could spend that much on self-indulgence and end the year no worse off than you began.
>>34069884This.But also if this was real. At that income level I have an EA on retainer and a partnership with a concierge with my manufacturer of my choice. I say "I have X dollars Im allocating to Y vehicle for Z usage. Have it in my driveway on A date"The value of this bmw is so low i is trivial to make happen, its not like an actual luxury vehicle where I have to actually maybe care and use a neuron onAll this other larp is just stupid and boring. People in that income level are approaching hands off lifestyles, but poors cant imagine that so that do this dumb shit of thinking its the same as going to buy a cpo toyota. Like give me a break lolThe real takeaway is no kids and no actual legacy. Instead of buying a shitty car find people to create and run your trust and actually have people remember you and be more than a speck in time who was making boring larps
>>34069826Ok. Cope and seethe.>>34069884Hey retard, what materialistic shit are you talking about? I said in my post that I don't buy anything.>>34069902It's literally in my post. $100,000 invested next year most likely. It was $85,000 this year.>>34069912Why are you so mad dude? Just relax. I do appreciate you thinking I'm at some insanely high level of wealth though. I'm definitely doing well but you act like I'm a millionaire.
>>34069912Also stop projecting your existential anxiety on to me. It's giving huge pussy vibes.
OP went mask off faster than most larpers lmao, gg it wasn't even entertaining, try harder next time. I would probably not roleplay people who make money as someone who hasn't ever been even close to that, you fucked up a ton of basics
>>34069627>Mercedes/Audi is off the table due to reliability.>Caring about reliability>Buying a BMWAnon, you never own a german car that is built after 2000. Because when it breaks after 3 years it goes back to the dealer.
>>34069627Blow a few million. Your life right now matters more than that of you at old age.I am quite serious about this.
>>34070579Anon, the story is that they make 200k but magically be at 300k in a couple years and they are contemplating buying a preowned bmw. If it's real, OP is a complete idiot anyway, there's no point using logic. It's memed on that only poors buy the used bmws that come from above average income people who lease them
Tldr'd you either buy fertility treatments, retire early, or fix some societal problem
>>34070904I wouldn't call creating a private foundation to dispense grants fixing a societal problem. It lets people who have no legacy keep their memory alive and all rich people do is use their money for power and control anyway. At least that way you're not just being a horrible person with it in theory. People would be surprised how common rich people doing it with their extra money is. It buys a lot of power in their community while they're alive
>>34069627If you’re interested in that kind of car, I would lease instead. It sounds like you’re just buying the car out of boredom and not because you are a racing car enthusiast. In three years, you’ll be bored of your current car. It’s convenient to just pick up a new lease and it’s clear you have the money to do so.
>>34071139Yeah I wouldn't equate that either, those rich are frauds virtue signalling
>>34071474Educate yourself on how grant funders impact a community before calling it virtue signalling. In many places those foundations are the only thing that keep major programs alive that help a lot of people in locally
>>34071667No. Cuz idgaf. If it's helping people then it's fixing societal issues unless it's causing a parasitic codependent relation where one is given fish but not taught how to fish themselves
>>34071759The irony is almost comical reading your replies
>>34071879TF you talking about
