In fact you have agency over some portion of your own thoughts and emotions already: you don't PIT maneuver people off the road just because you have a fleeting urge to do so because they cut you off or something, you don't grab fistfuls of peoples' food when you go to a restaurant just because you had a hunger pang while waiting to be served, you don't molest or rape women at the grocery store just because they look good in that top, etc.
Your trauma is likely creating impulses towards negative thoughts or behaviors (if it didn't, you probably wouldn't bother to make this thread, right?). Do your best to notice these impulses and disengage from them. Distraction is a good tool; finding an engaging hobby that occupies your body and mind is an effective means of dealing with trauma. You should also do your best to stop assigning meaning to the traumatic thing and don't let it become the cornerstone of a negative narrative of your life. Don't mythologize your suffering.

you can make yourself traumatized.
you can really heal yourself to be traumatized by thinking about it over and over again.

if you can do it in one direction, you can do it in the other, as well. but you should not neglect true feelings.
there is a way to change outlook on a situation. to change how to interpret the memories in a meaningful story which is truthful, aligned with reality and empowers. this is best combined with what makes the body feel better: physical training. and you listen to music which makes you think positive thoughts.

also... completely unrelated approach: alchemy, CG Jung...

and there are 2 main ways to overcome trauma:
1: Alchemy, deep psychology
2: behavioural psychology, coaching
both are equally valid depending on whether you are more the engeneering type, or the philosophical kind.

I did it by introducing equally traumatic experience or greater trauma. When my fiance and I broke up, I thought I was in the lowest pits of my life. Then I wanted to get away from it all and the memories of my small town so I became a zogbot and joined US military. The physical and psychological torment is there- not to truly overcome the past hurt, but to introduce new hurt. It was more like I was just being distracted. The immediate trauma is needing to be addressed, so the past trauma no longer mattered. Only so much brainpower can be utilized for that. If I'm too busy worrying about enemy snipers in a combatant field, I don't have time to be crying over failed relationships, you dig? Also gym and repeated strenuous exercise regimen helped me tremendously. Something about building new muscle and pumping fresh blood all over my body and brain.
