So I visited a cousin recently I haven’t seen since childhood. I was hoping to reconnect a bit but conversations didn’t really go past surface level and I got the vibe they didn’t want to hang out or talk to me after leaving me to hangout with their friend who was also visiting. She also insisted I didn’t have to stick around with her when we were out, so I left after that.Later a comment was made when we were discussing politics that really hurt me. She said that people born with autism or other impairments should have been aborted and never been born. Her family also agreed. For context she is neurotypical and kind of fits the popular girl description.I’m honestly not sure if it was directed at me or if she realized I have Aspergers but since I don’t talk a lot and can’t express emotions normally I figured she knew? I cried myself to sleep that night and fell further into depression. I’m trying to forget that comment but I can’t. Maybe this is my fault since I suck at initiating conversation, and also not talking to her much. Or maybe she just sees me as a stranger since it’s been so long. I’m not sure what to think of all this, I just wish I had family I could be close to.
>>34090221>I’m honestly not sureSee, that’s the problem! Imagine if you didn’t have autism, or if no one had autism. She was being based and red pilled, don’t worry about it.
>>34090221>She said that people born with autism or other impairments should have been aborted and never been born.Wow. Assuming she was being serious and not joking what a grade A bitch. People like her (as well as the rest of her family) are bigots and the reason why so many people face discrimination. If it was up to people like her neurodivergent people would be literal slaves to neurotypical people.
>>34090221>For context she is neurotypical and kind of fits the popular girl description.this is basically all you had to say. people like her were horrible people in high school and they're horrible people now as adults
That sucks. I hear a lot of comment like this in IRL. The best thing what we can do as neurodivergent is ignore people like that. Stupid people is stupid, there's nothing what we can do. Don't be ashamed anon, there's nothing wrong with u.
>>34090221Normies don't think before speaking, giving it more thought than a dog barking is overthinking, but she is still an asshole. Sorry but people that care about others in an honest manner are a rare breed.
>>34090221I don't think it was directed at you. Some people think it this certain form of eugenics where people with noticeable impairments and disabilities should be aborted, because the chance of them having a more difficult life is higher. Also the cost for society could be reduced, because there would be less cost for the support of those people. Never being born is better then to die, so it could be a starting point for antinatalism. Or just getting society to a more "healthy" point. I don't know about her political opinions, but it could be that. Some people that like to talk about politics like to make extreme statements so the argumentation gets more heated. Maybe you are just overthinking it.
>>34090221She sounds kind of based, but is still merely spouting half-realized woman thoughts. The fact that you’re so bothered by something so unimportant kinda validates her sentiment. How old are you, to be crying yourself to sleep over a comment that wasn’t even directed at you? If your disorder really is out of your control and causes you to suffer, then it’s a disease, not “neurodivergence” which implies a healthy difference. Some people have to live their lives with lost limbs, hearts that literally have a hole which prevents them from doing anything physical and fun ever, or actual mental trauma from shit like rape. You’ve got to get a grip on life and start actively pursuing the companionship you are so desperate for, or you will always feel lost and miserable. You have to squash every autistic nagging doubt in your head with “it doesn’t matter, I have to do this”
>>34093135Every self-respecting woman is a eugenicist. This is the secret upside of feminism and women's rights.
She probably doesn't consider you autistic.
>>34090221The key question you need to consider: How likely is it that family members wouldn't have mentioned your diagnosis over the years? Even if you haven't been close, families often share this kind of information, and thats a plausible way she would have found out.Making that statement in front of someone you know has Asperger's shows either malice or extreme insensitivity. If she didn't know, then it was coincidentally painful rather than targeted.
>>34090221I’m sorry to hear that. You sound like a nice person and it really sucks that your own family doesn't make the effort to free up some time for you. I don’t think it was directed at you, normal people don't tend to overthink or think at all about the meaning of what they say.I’m also on the spectrum and know the feeling of inadequacy when it comes to human relations or not having someone to connect with. I really hope you find a friend that can understand you on some level.
Anon look at how much consideration you gave herYour long post, your thoughts, asking hereNow think about how much consideration she gave to her statement: directed at you or notShe is not your family. You have people out there in the world who love you and are waiting for you to find them.
>>34090221>Am I overthinking this?yes, learn to have thick skin. Even if they did mean it- learn to have it roll off you.>I just wish I had family I could be close toeveryone does. But there are instances where you need to also cut family out of your life if they aren't treating you like family. What kind of "family" would make you feel unwelcome? I did this so many times in my life and its only to my benefit. Family are real ones who treat you like actual family- that could be close friends instead of blood family. I've had blood family absolutely treat me like trash and I've erased them from my life. I don't consider them family, even though we are blood related. Only positive people for my energy from here on.
Bump
>>34090221see if you weren't autistic you would know that she obviously hated you. isn't that funny?
>>34090221>Later a comment was made when we were discussing politics that really hurt me. She said that people born with autism or other impairments should have been aborted and never been born.By far the most likely thing is that she is referring to low functioning autistics i.e. the type that are barely self-aware and tend to maul the people around them half to death on a whim.I strongly doubt any sane person would say that rational awkward spergs should have been exterminated at birth. That's an absurd thing to say.I really dont think she meant you OP, and by the looks of it she didn't even think you were abnormal. At least, that's my opinion.
