I've been learning "drawing" or trying to draw the whole day with this new drawing tablet I got for Christmas and it seems an insurmountable task. I've watched a few beginner tutorials but they don't tell me anything besides to do the fundamentals of drawing simple geometrical objects. I've tried just drawing from reference but they all look like some paint meme more than any coherent effort of an actual drawing. Is there any concrete type of plan I can try because I feel drawing as if I were 6 for the next 18 months is going to drive me insane. And frankly I don't see how people get good at drawing digitally where all their lines are crisp and clean.

Go to /ic/, ready the sticky first and take seriously the recommended beginner material.
Start posting your work in the beginner general. Draw every day if your can. Do a mix of studies and things that genuinely excite you (e.g. fan art).

As you get a bit better try things like Do Art Daily.

Thank you very much anon, I wasn't even aware 4chan had an artwork board in 7 years of being here.
>>
>>34090418
No problem! It's one of the best boards on the site imo, it's had a lot of history and solid artists posting there over the years. Some anons can be crabs in a bucket though, try not to get swayed by those types and your experience on the board should be pretty solid.

Sometimes there will be resource threads too, they're usually great whenever they pop up. They'll have lots of great books you can read through for free.

Anon you have been at it for a single day. Keep going and keep going. Your stuff will look like SHIT starting off, but genuinely just keep drawing the stuff you want to see even if its not good. Look at artists you like and learn from what they do, use reference, but just keep at it. Eventually you will start to really like what you can make.

I started in august 2024 and its wild to think I can actually draw now, I have fans, people follow me, people look forward to what I post... just keep at it!

Actually I started last month but on paper, then I had to stop due to college exams and seminars and now I'm finally back and bought myself a drawing tablet because that will actually force me to draw regularly, I'm in bed rn and phoneposting but I will post my "art" tomorrow in the beginner thread on /ic.

I wonder where Howie went

>how to use your drawing software
>colour theory and using premade color palettes
>anatomy
>perspective
>composition
>practice

i don't know what kind of things you wish to draw but the fundamentals are shared across everything basically. If you want to draw characters i'd suggest to do a couple of gestures every day, it's good practice and it gets pretty fun too

>How do I get good at drawing?
I'll let you on to a big secret. You practice a lot. Years. I had a GF who was studying art. She'd been drawing since childhood and never stopped. She would doodle women's faces all the time. I still have a bunch.

At the time, I thought she was the best artist ever. Decades later, she's so much better then now then how she was back then her old drawings look like scribbles.

>You practice a lot. Years.
ok but like... how do you do that
>>
>>34090389
Sounds like a stupid prerequisite, but getting good at drawing is partly a mental health check.
You have for a long time seen what good art looks like, got good at recognizing it, making it even harder to accept how little you can actively do right now.
Sure, time and practice will improve your skills, but this mental blockade depending on how you handle these things can truly stop you in your tracks.
You have to both accept what your current skills are, and understand learning to draw isn't linear at all, which can be hard depending on your past experiences. After doing that, you'll be good to go.

Wishing you the best anon.
I'd tell you to literally just draw. Quantity over quality. Learning anatomy and composit>>34092043
ion and colour theory and all that stuff will boost your progress but the most important thing is to just draw.
Make it easy, visible and appealing. Draw while listening to a youtube video or a streamer or just music. Dont fret over bad drawings, just keep drawing every day.
Also, try paper. A good artist doesnt need the newest Wacom tablet, Da Vinci or Dürer could create masterpieces with juat ink and paper.
Also, you get obvious, quantifiable progress when you see the pile of paper paper filled with scribbles.
Generally, read Atomic Habits, it has usefull knowledge.
Try to get a good average of two or three pages filled per day, then time will do the rest and your pictures will get better and better on their own.
