Does it make sense to move out if you'd be living really close to your parents? I'm on the fence about it.I'm 28 and still living at home, which is getting embarrassing. However I'm able to put away nearly my entire paycheck into savings each month, which is nice. There's an apartment I can afford ten minutes away. But I'm not sure if it's wise to move out and forfeit all those easy savings.
>>34092880if i were you id live with my parents to save money and then buy a nice place of my own. idk why is it a thing to move out so soon now just to live paycheck to paycheck, most of my family members were living with parents even after getting married and having kids and then buying/building nice houses
Why do you want to move out?
>>34092886I live in northern Virginia, it's considered strange to do that around here unless you're latino. I see nothing wrong with it per se and it makes good financial sense, but you get a lot of weird looks at my age.>>34092887I feel like there's a point where I've gotta leave the nest. On the one hand I feel like I will never get a friend (or, via miracle, a gf) by living with mom and dad at 28, there's a lot of "failure to launch" snootery around here regarding that. On the other hand I know these snoots are likely debt cattle without the same savings I have ($220k right now). The smart ones who grew up here solved this problem by marrying college sweethearts and moving out of state, but I didn't do that, so I'm in a pickle now. Coworkers assume that I already have an apartment and am evenmarried due to my age. So I feel like I've got to start inching forward to that even if it makes limited financial sense. It will not get easier to find a nice relationship as I get older yet remain with mom and pop.
>>34092880Keep saving the money. Get a hotel room or something if you want a place for sex with women.
>>34092959>I live in northern VirginiaThis is considered a code for being a glowoid.
>>34092959You don't move out to appease people. You should move with purpose, not desperation for people's attention. That said, what are you saving for?
>>34092880It depends. Does your area have options for dating and friendship, or is it buttfuck nowhere? If you already have friends and dating options, a place just becomes a place to hang out. But if you don't, then it won't change anything.
>>34093039>That said, what are you saving for?A down payment. But the purpose wouldn't be to have a "place of my own" but rather a home to raise a family.>You should move with purpose, not desperation for people's attention. To me that is part of the issue because it's hard at 28 to attempt a serious relationship while living with your parents. A lot of people "should" be engaged or in LTRs at that age. I'm not interested in hotel hookups like the previous poster mentioned, the purpose is to have a stable relationship leading to marriage. While staying at home for a couple more years would help make a higher down payment, I feel like it really narrows out the dating pool, which makes purchasing a home feel moot.
You’re getting to an age where you have to start weighing tradeoffs based on what YOU actually value.Having your own space and feeling self-sufficient is nice, but what would you do with your own place that you can’t do now?
>>34092887Not OP but it just feels like it's time. Not to mention my parents love hosting ppl so it's a pain in the ass to be sociable when im getting off of work or just want to be left alone. I also have a gf so shit like sex and other stuff isn't as fun when you know you gotta keep it down so your parents aren't hearing your fucking through the walls. My parents are great but I just feel like it's time to be on my own ya know? I can even tolerate something like roommates, I just don't want to live with parents.
>>34092959Dude you have 220k in savings, motherfucker that's atleast enough to afford a 1 bedroom if you have flowing income. I'm trying to get to 20k before I move, how the fuck are you stuck at 220k?
>>34092880it only makes practical sense to move out if you have dating prospects with someone who won't speedrun ruining your life>which is getting embarrassingimagine burdening yourself because you care what others think
