I'm at something of a crisis in my life and would like the input of those who frequent the boards.I am 23 years old and I graduated high school back in 2021, not having a solid idea, really any idea of what I wanted to do in life. I worked at a restaurant for a while. My Dad is something between a boomer and a gen Xer, so he suggested "go into the trades", and so about year ago I went into a trade union since that seemed to be the easiest entry point.Fast forward to now, and I have such a low tolerance for it. I don't really care for or enjoy the work. Not only that, but my obligations to the Union include 10 hour classes on Saturdays, and meetings the first Wednesday of every month. Oh, and the drive t and from he meetings and school are an hour and a half each way. And my co-workers? Yeesh...So in a reverse direction, I've been looking at colleges. I've been interested in biology and life since I was young so I am interested in careers related to those fields, particularly health in things like pathology, osteology, lab work, or hell even being a doctor.Like I mentioned earlier, I am 23 so I am at a point where I need to get my shit together. What do you think? Stick with the Union or go to college and study?
>>34101399Go to school if you have the balls. That auto spawns you on the upper level. The only guys who make it through hump busting are the exceptional, who should have went to college. Even with a degree in basket weaving, you could be supervisor at the basket factory.
>>34101399DO NOT go to college to get a job.DO GO if you want to enter one of the surprisingly few professions that actually require a degree (Lab assistant, for example, does not)DO GO if you want to learn a lot about something just because that's enjoyable
>>34101399What's your plan for supporting yourself while going to school? Is Dad going to cover it?Plenty of people with degrees work at Marshalls. Go because you want to be an expert in the thing not because you think it'll get you a better job.
>>34104174>DO NOT go to college to get a jobNTA but why when most jobs require a degree in the first place?
