Anyone here been to the Netherlands? Was planning a cycling trip there and wanted some feedbacks.

I'm a decent cyclist but have -never- camped in my life. I can easily ride 80+km/day but I want a relaxing trip through some beautiful land.
My current plan goes:
Amsterdam > Haarlem > Leiden > Gouda > ??? (Utrecht, maybe?) > Amsterdam
Scenic Route every time, each trip <50km..

It seems reasonable to me, but like I said I've never camped AND never been to NL.
If anyones' been I'd appreciate some advice or suggestions.

Go camping before the trip.
I did a good amount of bike packing, it's fun.
I used to live in Germany so somewhat similar.
50km in ultra flat Netherlands is very chill per day.
Also check the law, Europe isn't very camping friendly if you don't hit up a campground.

Shake down your equipment, especially the camping stuff, just go out and do it till you're comfortable with it and how you have packed it.

Tbh that tour sounds pretty boring to me, you'll probably just cruise flat well paved cycling paths.
But to each their own.

Are the ticks as bad as they say they are?

I'm from the Netherlands.
Where are you gonna camp? Because you're not allowed to just set up a tent anywhere here. If you camp in a random spot, you risk getting fined 100's of euros.

Never had a tick in my life here and I've lived here my whole life. Just do the standard checks at the end of every day if you're worried

I've seen camping grounds for like $10 that seems reasonable. Not sure how busy it gets in April though that seems to be early in the camping season

It will be busier when all the schools have a week off starting April 25th. But before that there's not gonna be many people

No.

I've been outdoors a lot more than your average European and I found maybe one per year crawling, not bitten.

And only if I've been creeping in some tall grass and such.

Never had a tick from cycling or camping.

not OP but I'd like to ask about camping in NL, specifically how safe the campsite are?

When I lived in the UK you'd only setup camp when you were gonna stay there, and you'd never leave your belongings or tent unattended. It was even like that on campground.
Where I'm in now I can just show up in the afternoon, setup my camp, and leave for some hiking/cycling with full confidence my stuff will be where I left it.
I'm really hoping it's the latter, but this is europe so idk

Truly depends on the region
Anywhere near major cities such as The Hague, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Utrecht people will steal everything thats not bolted down. Camping sites situated in areas to the east/south tend to be more covered by "neighbourhood watch" environments where people have norms and values and will actually keep an eye out for shady types hounding on your camp. The more rural, the safer your belongings are.

That aside, Id recommend you atleast store anything you're not willing to lose. NL still has alot of good folk but it has been going south for the last decade or so.

Never leave your bike unattended. We've got some good bike magicians.

Ah that sucks
In Asia you can plop your stuff down and come back to it whenever. Figured at least areas outside Amsterdam would be like that but guess not.

>I can easily ride 80+km/day
That's a fucking warmup kek 140km is a more sensible number unless you spend half of the day sucking Arab dick and that's on my shitty omafiets, if you have a decent bike you can do more. My record is 200km in one day.

I went on a few biking/camping trips through NL.
1. Prepare for the possibility of rain.
2. Entire country is densely populated and it's not allowed to randomly camp, which means you really have to plan your sleeping spots beforehand
3. I'd set up my tent, sleep, immediately fold it back in the morning
4. Pay attention to the wind, it completely changes the game
5. Everything looks exactly the same, so just pick a random spot and go there, it won't differ at all from the other spot you wish you had picked. Notable exceptions are the Delta Works and the road Enkhuizen -> Lelystad -> Almere because at night there's nothing and nobody and it's all so calm. I live in Amsterdam, and often I do that circle if the night is good
6. Tent + sleeping bag can be quite heavy, if you're rich I'd seriously consider sleeping in hotels

I live in NL, nature is beautiful here and cycling is a breeze

only thing I have to say is that camping anywhere is illegal and besides you won't find spots to do that in. This isn't Sweden there are still people beyond the tree lines.
So if you want to do it cheap, tent and camping grounds, I went for as cheap as a couple of euros per night. You get to use a toilet/shower facilities, a spot to put up your tent, you can tie your bicycle outside of your tent then that avoids the stealing problem. Enjoy it man :)
