I make a slight monthly surplus now and have about 2k USD in the bank I will not be spending short-term. What to do with it?
>>34145498Just save it, 2k isn't enough to really do anything with. Keep it in a money market or high yield savings account so it (barely) keeps up with the real inflation rate.
>>34145498Treat it like it doesn't exist at first. 2K is a fraction of a hospital bill. Continue saving up that surplus, invest some into a CD to earn some interest off of it. In a few years this small surplus will turn into a large surplus which you can use to buy yourself nicer things. A better vehicle perhaps, or get yourself a better house. Maybe you'll even own a house. But yeah, you get by on your budget, and you're doing everything right as long as you aren't going in the red. Ideally the amount of money you have in your bank should be higher next month then it was this month of a continuous basis.
>>34145506I wouldn't recommend a CD. A small one won't pay much and it's better not to lose access to the money. A HYSA or MMA only pays a little less and you can take it out if you need it.Second paragraph is on point though.
>>34145506>>34145504I'm in the same scenario as OP but I have $15k. I want to buy a decent used car and then I'll have whatever leftover from that to do whatever with but I'm not sure what.
>>34145532>>34145506>>34145504Thanks. I'll just open a separate savings account and continue grinding on a budget for now. I was hoping there'd be some get rich quick scheme, but that's naive I guess.
>>34145498Keep saving, 2k isn't a lot but it's a good start
>>34145498Buy gold with it, you'll get around 8% richer every year without doing a thing.
>>34145504i have 18k can i do something with that?
>>34145532The penalty for withdrawing from the CD isn't that bad if you really need it. But I'd only do a CD if I knew I really wouldn't be touching the money except for an emergency.
