I’m torn between two alternatives: going to university or becoming a hermetic, solitary autodidact. On the one hand, university is excellent because it’s social and students are expected to accomplish something to pass their courses. On the other hand, it’s expensive, it takes years to finish and perhaps not all the coursework will be completely interesting. There’s also the negative of my elected degree in particular, a Bachelor of Arts: it doesn’t guarantee a great job (except, maybe, in government or business administration). Being an autodidact will cost me nothing; there will be no deadlines nor assigned coursework, no pressure. To be or not to be a university student, that is the question…
Autodidact in this day n age full stopCollege is just for dumb FOMO, not actual self-directed people or if you were then do med law engineering or whatever else is an actual gated profession
>>34145972>autodidactYou don't know what this word actually means. But you are correct to question if college education is something for you. Only you can answer that question, make sure to weight the pros and cons properly.
>>34145994Well the cons outweigh the pros>prosocialisingstudying topics that interest me (I can do this without university enrolment however, so it’s moot)>conlosing years of my life to a commitment I’m uncertain abouttaking on tens of thousands of dollars of debtsubjecting myself to vain amounts of stresspursuing a degree that offers no guarantee I’ll ever work in my field of study (that isn’t necessarily a con but it makes the whole thing seem futile regardless)
>>34145994>autodidactyou’re right, I should have said dilettante.
