What do you do for a job /adv/? I need ideas. I feel like AI and outsourcing is taking a bunch of careers, and if you weren't already settled and well-off before that, you can't be now, and there's not much left but being a wageslave in retail barely getting by....but some people are still out there thriving in this world, not having to live with their parents at all, so what are they/you doing?

I'm thinking about seeing a career counselor, but I don't know what they could tell me that'd motivate me. It's their job to tell you good things even if it's not true. Otherwise they'd be in my situation.

Legal translator. I usually work for US companies involved in tax disputes around or take contracts from the DOJ for extraditions. I make a bit over 30k a year. It is very lonely, I do not recommend

I hope that was a typo or I'm making more than you at walmart. Still lonely though. Lonely doesn't factor into it im lonely no matter what.

>I feel like AI and outsourcing is taking a bunch of careers
AI is a marketing scam. Outsourcing has been going on since before you were born. My suggestion would be to look for a trade, like plumber or wood worker or electrician or auto mechanic.

It is not a typo

Lets say I wanted to be a plumber, do I just learn about how pipes and pressure and drano and drainsnakes and shit works and then go to plumbers-r-us depot where I join their team of dispatch plumbers they're always sending out? Do you have to start your own business buy all your gear and selfpromote and all that? And even if that gets through, you're still basically freelance competing with all the rest of the ones now aiming for the trades because everything else is gone?

I'm studying to be a teacher. Only thing you have to deal with is students creating assignments with AI, but it's quite easy to spot if your a Zoomer like me who sees AI writing all the time.

Most places make plumbers be licensed. This normally means completing a course and a test and a lot of places won't let you take the test until you can prove a certain number of years as an apprentice (junior plumber making shit wages). Buying your own tools is pretty darn cheap as a plumber

I’m a registered behavioral technician, which is sort of like a tard guard but I have to intentionally piss them off by asking them repetitive questions and making them do things they don’t want to do. I make okay money (25 an hour in a Midwest state with no education) but I’m going to be honest and straight up and admit I hate half of the kids. I just can’t empathize with a 5 year old who is biting me and throwing a literal 2 hour tantrum just because they want a yellow ball instead of blue. The only ones I like are the ones that are there somehow despite having obvious genetic disorders like DiGeorge’s or Rhett’s as they’re usually chill. Also, I have to work exclusively with dumb sluts. I do not recommend. In school for engineering though.

Said caveman Og to caveman Oog, "Now that the wheel has been invented us humans are obsolete."

Every technological advance in history has created more jobs than it displaced. There's not too much call for blacksmiths these days, but millions are employed making cars.

What do you actually want to do with your life?

arts, creative or tech. I knew what I wanted and I followed it and was driven and briefly had a start of career in it where people told me i was good, and now its all gone because of the ease of tech and covid and then i tried to get by driving for food delivery but illegals dominated all that years ago, and even now that its somewhat viable again as they're going away, i am not motivated to go drive all the time for little pay now. now im just depressed and have no real goals because i feel whatever i learn it'll be gone by the time i get there anyway. .it's easier to just not want anything, but im living with mom and shes constantly pushing me to be SOMETHING, because "im just not trying hard enough, of course theres stuff out there you're just listening to the trolls on the internet too much."

but this >>34167972
discouraged me even more....sounds like no matter what i can't just jump into a thing and make good money, its always gonna take years and investment money, so i might as well just float in easy retail till the world ends in a few years. i am breaking even but not making money, at 20/hr fulltime, and that is higher than normal in this state. i was considering trucking, but i'd be bad at it and already have bullshit speeding tickets making me ineligible for awhile now.

what jobs is AI going to create that it won't soon do itself? AI is not a tool like a wheel or a smartphone, it's better thought of as a new race to replace us. And soon it will have physical form as robots and replace labor (which i am already no good at) too. and it doesnt have to replace EVERYTHING, just crash enough industries to cause far more oversaturation where it shouldn't be.

I'd love to be a teacher, but my mental health couldn't take the strain of 5 years of uni. Which subjects are you studying for?

>sounds like no matter what i can't just jump into a thing and make good money
More experience in the specific field = higher wages. Unless you're willing to do something dangerous or disgusting, possibly both you are correct.

i'd be more worried of how crazy kids are now, and that you can't discipline them without repercussions, wouldn't wanna be in that asylum.
