Dishwasher here. So there's this new guy in kitchen. He's supposed to wash the pots and pans, and I use the mashine to wash the plates and cups. That's his assignment and that's mine.

So he tries to get me to be switching with him so he does the plates and cups and I do the pots and pans. But I refused cause that's not my job.

And now it's been a few shifts but he totally ignores me everytime we cross paths. Doesn't even say hi. But he talks and says hi to the other coworkers in the kitchen.

Basically giving me the cold shoulder. He even made a snarky remark when a customer asked him where to put their dirty cup, "ask mister dishwasher over there" even though he knows where the dirty cups go and he was closer to that area than me.

I now have to work with this guy. What do I do? Just pretend he doesn't exist?

Well there's sort of two issues here.

The first, practical issue, is who does what in your workplace. If your boss wasn't clear about this to him, or he just doesn't accept his duties at work, that's one problem.

The second issue is your relationship, whether either of you are working well together, notwithstanding the issue of who cleans what. You say he's being rude to you, that's an issue. But you might also consider whether you've been rude to him. I don't know.

It might be worth approaching him and saying "hey i wasn't trying to be rude the other day about the dishes, we just have two seperate work stations here, the boss gives us a station, we aren't allowed to just swap stations with people"

I've had that issue, washed dishes, new guys have to start as dish washers, they often resent that, don't want to wash dishes, think they can do other people's jobs. Many don't last, which tends to be why in hospitality everyone is made to start as a dish washer. It's a pecking order thing.

I applied to work in a four start cocktail bar in a Hilton, was hired, but when I got there they put me on dishes. Obviously I wasn't happy about that but I knew it was just one of those shit tests, right or wrong, spent three days doing dishes for $30 an hour, then i got put up to bar back polishing glasses, a week later on bar, a week later on cocktail line. That's how the business worked. But you can totally see why I would have resented that, I was hired to do one job, forced to do shitty work i never agreed to.

I want to reiterate and reformulate it
>ask mister dishwasher over there
He obviously sounds slow in the fucking head and is probably too retarded to control his impulses, don't feel bad about doing him "wrong" he will almost definitely fuck himself eventually or worse fuck you or someone over. Let this be a lesson for him.

The fuck... and here I am stocking shelves at Walmart for $16...

He's not paid to talk to you. He's paid to wash dishes. Why does that bother you? Yeah pretend he doesn't exist, that's what you do with almost all people

He's immature.
Complain to your boss "This guy is giving me attitude because I won't trade jobs with him."

I think I'd take this >>34268297 route too
He's acting like a 3rd grade bully. His goal is attention. Preferably a frustrated outburst from OP. Why give it to him? Or why try to be nice when the dude is trying to get a rise out of them?

Its a power move. He’s trying to get you do his job so he can coast.
Take the boss aside and explain from your point of view, and ask the boss 2 things.

1. His suggestions.
2. Ask him not to be involved, that it doesn’t require him to get involved - unless it escalates, then you’ll speak with him again.

What you’ll have done is set yourself up as being credible, and that you’re attempting to learn how to be the boss/be responsible. Ultimately, it’s just a job. If it gets too much, speak to the boss and say that you’re going to start looking for another job where you don’t have to deal with him.
Perhaps your boss knows of a different position that you could grow into.

Today is only a day. Tomorrow has more potential. Don’t give up, each day is a step towards your goals.in 2 years, that asshat might be your report.

Rat him to the boss. I would be very interested in canning a guy that just walked in and started acting superior, for reals.
