So a month ago, someone gave me some money, cause they wanted to help me out. It was about $100.

A week ago, I see this same person and I wanted to say hello to them. So I say hello. But then they sort of ignore and treat me like as if they don't know me. I see this same person again the next day, and it is the same behavior. They ignore me.

I don't understand. Why they treat me like this? They gave me money. And now they won't even say hello? This is behavior I don't understand. Can someone explain?

Have you said when you'll pay it back? Were they already expecting to be paid back by now?

They gave me the money with the CLEAR intention that it was to never be paid back. It wasn't a loan...

That's kind of weird then. I'm not sure if it could've been the strength of the relationship, if you didn't know each other well that person might have developed bitter feelings after the fact.

I mean I just truly don't understand this behavior. It's like as if someone saves your life and then tomorrow acts like they don't know you.

It's like they want the act of doing a good deed but they don't want the connection that comes from a person they've done the good deed for.

Like giving a homeless person some food while at the same time telling them they're a useless piece of shit stained garbage.

I don't understand why they do the good deed in the first place if they don't care about the person?

Maybe he felt sorry for you. That doesn’t mean he likes or respects you. Maybe he gave you the money so that you would stop bothering him.

Maybe he gave you the money out of pity but then thought about if afterwards and regretted that decision. There are many possibilities.

I wasn't bothering him. I never asked him for anything. I was just casually talking about my situation one time and he just whipped out his wallet. I never asked him for shit.

Damn

Next time you see him you should probably talk to him and ask him whats going on.

Good deeds don't lead to connections. In fact, in order for it to be a good deed it has to be free of connection and attachment. If you only help somebody because you're emotionally attached to them, then you're doing it for yourself and not for that person. If you help somebody with no attachments, no expectations and no emotional bias towards that person, then you genuinely did it for that person's sake and for the sake of goodness itself. It could be that he simply helped you because you were in need and he had the means to fulfill that need. He could have felt that it was the morally correct thing to do rather than something he himself wanted to do.

I mean without knowing any details about the relationship between you and this person it is impossible to say but I would never ever give money to someone I know let alone someone I consider a valuable friend. It would permanently change the nature of the relationship.
On the contrary when I give money to a beggar I rightfully expect them to leave me alone the next time. The way I see it, it's the other person's fault for giving you money in the first place. Then again you shouldn't have accepted it if you wanted to be their friend. Hell you probably should have shut up about your "situation" if you wanted their respect.

> I was just casually talking about my situation one time

Are you sure? Some people can’t tell when they are complaining or being annoying.
