My parents are very tit-for-tat. They try and use any favor they do against you and hold it over your head. Whenever I visit they never provide food, they wait for me to ask for it and then try to demand concessions. Oftentimes I have to use Uber-Eats because otherwise I don't get any food but then they yell and say I'm not allowed to order Uber-Eats to the house. They wait until I'm really hungry and then finally give me food and then try to tell me who I can date, what I can wear, who I'm allowed to talk to and say "well we gave you a meal, and you wont listen to us???"I'm visiting this weekend and brought my own food so they couldn't pull this on me but they freaked out and said "you don't like your moms cooking what's wrong with you you're ungrateful!" and started yelling so I ran off to my old room and just ate my food there.I don't know how to deal with this because if I bring my own food they freak out but if I don't then I won't be eating for 6-8 hours while they go "hmmm, you want food?" and imply concessions before they serve it.

Buy a big bag of dry beans/lentils of your choice. Fill a container 1/3 of the way with beans and then fill to the top with water. Leave container overnight to absorb water. Take the beans and boil in water til they cook, or just turn them into a mash, add salt, spices, vinegar, perhaps sugar, put in a reheatable aluminum tray, and wallah!
